Re: Crypto and ERE?
Thanks for your input Jacob, I have to admit that my mind doesn’t work well with detail. So both of your arguments go over my head a bit. I think your point is that with BTC you can’t be sure to be able to exit without moving the price? Or maybe exit at all? I can’t see how that matters to the idea ...

Re: Collective Effervescence
This is powerful stuff. I rank it in there with drugs and sex. A side of my family was clergy. They literally lived off their flock. I picked up some of their craft as a child. Group singing, holding hands and chanting repetitively together, fireside prayers at night. All tribal stuff. Pushes our p...

Re: Crypto and ERE?
I like the idea of a 75% gold 25% BTC allocation. That way you rebalance into something that has always been money. You have the chance of high returns but if BTC goes belly up you still have the gold. Just food for thought and I don’t hold this exact allocation myself and got the idea from reading ...

Re: Portfolio Charts
Eyeing the massive yearly "in gold we trust report" something caught my eye on page 159 Basically Tylers famous GBP allocation is being advocated, as the 60/40 doesn't hold up anymore. No credit is given though....Maybe he has come up with it himself. The value of gold has been shown to me...

Re: The Great Books curriculum
That’s a full list to get truly aquatinted with the western tradition. Although with my interest I miss esoterica. We dipped into some of those names in reading assignment on the entry level course in “history of ideas” i’m taking and read about many more of them. The only full book from the list I ...

Re: Frihet / Freedom - Journal
@ mathiverse Thank you, I will defiantly share if I find something. @jacob I totally respect your decision, as someone who has always been more of an observer of life, I wouldn’t want to curate that type of thing myself. Probably not take part too much either so I understand…. “With me providing the...

The yearly update: I ask myself, why do I continue to update this infrequent log of my life story? Well, there is something reassuring that it’s here as a testament to myself of what I’ve been through and maybe someone picks up something from it. I still lurk on the forum although I don’t feel any u...

Re: Retirees, what do you do all day long?
After 3 years out of work, I became a university student for the first time in my life last autumn. I'm taking a half-speed distance course on "the history of ideas". It is basically the ideas that have formed western thought since Plato/Aristotle and forward. I'm enjoying it very much, hi...

Re: Fiction Writing MMG
I have been enjoying John Michael Greer’s blog posts about becoming successful as a writer. Hopefully it is of interest to the aspiring writers in this thread too. Four parts so far. One of his strongest tips is to start with non-fiction actually and there is a very good mathematical reason for that...

Re: Do you dream about money?
I don’t dream about money either. But sometimes about work still. I actually did that last night, three years after having quit I was back at the oil rigs but to my surprise I was working as a underwater carpenter, a strange occupation and I even had that sense in the dream. Carpentry under water, h...

@ertyu @benrickert Ok by popular demand. here is a bit about my from the outside unassuming looking life. Made an unconventional choice when I needed an apartment last spring when my former partner was going to come and stay with me over the summer and got a subsidized rental flat in an idyllic sma...

Turquoise Teachings - Wisdom from the Masters YouTube Channel
Been having a break from the forum, scrolling through the threads I noticed that color codings are the name of the game these days. So here comes some turquoise gems. This sublime YouTube channel is created by a Buddhist nun with eclectic taste in spirituality. She reads scripture from diverse tradi...

Re: New technology - that could solve our energy problem?!
Thanks every body for your input. @iopsi It is my understanding that with wind and solar we would still need base load and that is where a technology like this would come in handy. I checked the macrovoices twitter feed and found some interesting articles. Iceland is of course, being a country betwe...

Re: New technology - that could solve our energy problem?!
Yes, they are talking about geothermal energy, and yes drilling cost is the problem at the moment. It is talked about in the interview. But Robert Friedland is confident that the technology of the billion-dollar company he is backing will solve this problem. They have already commercialized it in se...

Hi Zanka, as a former minor online poker player, during the boom in the 2000s,I enjoy to read your journal. Amazing that it’s still possible to make money. I was mostly bonus-whoring myself not really that good. And speaking of being good I think that’s one consideration to take into account regardi...

Nice to see that you found a life in Vietnam and that you are enjoying staying put and relaxing were you are with your girlfriend. Did Vietnam do the same as India did for my friends who stayed put? They just keep extending your visa because of covid? In that case it sounds like a great place be dur...

Congratulations! Wishing you a happy and long retirement. Fun that you mentioned matched betting as a new hobby. I also did it some years ago. Remember people saying then that it wasn’t sustainable long term. Nice to see that it’s still possible.

Thank you for this. You are welcomed. Here you can read more about it. Actually this might be even more advanced than just learning to be with strong emotion. And to be honest I haven’t yet learned to practice what is being described here myself. Even though I’m quite good at finding feelings as ph...
