Re: C40's Journal
So what ultimately made you opt out of the vasectomy? Do you think you may want kids in the future? Or did you just not feel like going in for the snip? I know you had discussed this a little bit previously in the journal, and you seemed pretty locked in, so I'm curious about the change of course. L...

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I'll put this to good use... now certainly seems like a decent time to do a little shopping.

Re: C40's Journal
Out of curiosity, what are the 17 numbers you check for stock picks? I'm always looking for more/better techniques to comprehensively evaluate companies.

Re: C40's Journal
You certainly could offer to pay back some of the college money, but it seems like it may unnecessarily open a can of worms. In your breakdown, you even bring up the undefinable monetary benefit of your mother taking care of you, which really complicates things. I understand the feelings of guilt, b...

Re: C40's Journal
This is really phenomenal. It's really cool to see someone executing their plan and closing in on living life exactly they way they choose. Regarding the van, will you just cook/wash dishes on your knees? Or will you have something like a car creeper to sit and slide around? Might be useful for movi...

Re: SWR milestone record
I didn't really discover ERE/SWR until early last year, but I kept decent records and roughed the previous percentages. Still working to reduce expenses and keep stashing more money away. My expenses are a good bit higher than the average seems to be around here, but we're getting there. End 2011 - ...

Re: Standard Staples' Journal
I haven't updated in many months, and maybe a monthly update isn't in the cards for me. But I did want to come in and give a full year-in-review. It's always nice to discuss financial matters with like minded people, and even when I'm not actively posting, I read lots of journals. They're very inspi...

Re: Are job perks underrated?
Work from home is huge, I just turned down a 10-15% raise because I'd lose my time from home... In my situation here is why home is superior: *I can finish my work and NOT HAVE TO PRETEND to be working. *people have to pick up a phone, or do something on a PC to get a hold of me. Which is hilarious...

Re: C40's Journal
Some solid picks that should do well for you in the long run. I like the even investing in each position, and I'd recommend you throw in some Consumer Staples, Utilities and Financials to balance out. Most utilities offer pretty high yields (4%+), and their growth will be slower than most other cate...

Re: C40's Journal
Just wanted to chime in to say I'm also looking to add some dividend growth to my overall investing strategy, and I also bought some MO in October for similar reasons (steady business and speculative marijuana investment). I'm still getting started but between Fidelity's own research capabilities, ...

Re: C40's Journal
Right now I'm mostly struggling with finding a source for good information. I'm looking for a free way to use Value Line, as it seems like a nice easy source for certain things. I'm not sure yet whether it's available through my Library (couldn't tell from searching online). I do use the Dividend C...

Re: C40's Journal
One last note – I made my first ever purchase of an individual stock. I’ve been thinking about dividend growth investing lately (maybe a fad lately? Hope I’m not just following fads..). Bought some AGNC at $21.79. Probably a bad way to start out here – a stock with a really high yield, and a busine...

No argument on the Rockport shoes. I have a pair in need of polishing to extend their life after years of almost daily work usage. Maybe I'll investigate another pair of those in a dark brown.

Re: How Different We Really Are...
Personally, I don't see a problem with purchasing a useful device that's clearly affordable to just about anyone on this forum, so no head hanging necessary. Technically, we all require some form of tech to even be a part of this website. There are worse ways to drop a buck than on an iPad that actu...

How Different We Really Are...
So, I had to share this story... I purchased the new iPad Air this morning at my local Apple Store. (Before I get burned for being a day-of-release adopter of expensive tech, it's the preferred device for my company and is 100% paid for by them.) But here's how those of us on this and other saving m...

Re: C40's Journal
Regarding the basement gym, I used the plans from this website to build a rack. It has been rock solid and keeps things safe, since my wife can't really spot me. If you start lifting some decent weight, it might be worth the small investment (especially for squats). Includes a stable chin bar, too. ...

I guess those would be useful details...
I'm a man, and I'm looking for business casual. Typical dress is slacks and a nice golf or button up shirt. No suits/tie situations.

Work Belt and Shoes Advice
Not sure if this is the right forum segment, but it seems right. I'm desperately in need of a new belt and shoes for professional/work use. I'd like something that will wear well for many years and matches. I don't mind spending a few bucks for pieces of high quality. Anyone have advice? Based on my...
