Re: What Do You Eat for Weight Loss?

177lbs fasted, dry, cleansed Waist at 36.8 still I guess the week off from fasting didn't change much. Fasting is sometimes harder since going vegan, not that it was ever easy but eating 12 strips of bacon had a way of stopping hunger. Overall I'm happy with the results so far. Another 27lbs projec...

Re: What blogs are you reading?

I normally love all of team Ritholtz blogs, I think their guys are great. I like ritzholtz but you can tell he's a liberal and as an evil conservative; I find fault with many of his posts. for instance, he currently has a post up about wind energy and he favors it because he's a warmist even though...

I have read this also and do like it as I am an evil capitalist and proud of it.

I would highly recommend his foundations of morality.

Re: Are your flood plans adequate?

Buried streams are less of a problem than paved-over swamps. Houston, New Orleans, Miami, D.C. are all paved-over swamps with limited high-ground. They are just big bathtubs waiting to be filled up. Living in Houston, I can tell you it is not a paved over swamp; it's essentially coastland and it, l...

Re: Bookshelf Photos Anyone?

ok, I took apart my stacks of books and re-organized them into categories like fiction, history, etc by author and found I have two full bookshelves and another 130 inches of books that need a bookshelf(they wehre just stashed in any free spot on the existing shelves. in addition, I have over 30 inc...

Re: best books to learn economics

this is not a book on economics but I looked back 3 pages and did not see a recommend books thread, so I am putting it here. recently read poor Richards retirement by aaron clarely and would highly recommend it to any ERE'er. it shows the aspects on minimalism and retiring on it. a warning that cla...

Re: best books to learn economics

does leeholsen care to summarize it in a blurb, or give an idea on how it compares to ERE or other minimalist/retirement literature? not to be a "brute" but I don't. its less than 150 pages, I read it in an hour and its $5 on kindle; it's up to you if you want to read it; I just recommend...

Re: Bookshelf Photos Anyone?

Hmm. I just had to rebuild one of my bookshelves because I had placed so many books on many of the shelves that the shelves could not support the weight. I understand that is possible, but I never would have thought of it, I mean they books not weights; turns out they are weights. So, I'm currently ...

Re: What online mag/newspaper subscriptions do ERE-ers have?

I would recommend getting the weekly letter/email for and visiting realinvestmentadvice.com its the site of the local Houston financial talk host, lance Roberts; who also manages money. he's a contraiarian and I believe he bases his market allocations by moving averages, although I cannot conform th...

Re: Most Challenging Obstacle in Personal Finance.

I think the most challenging thing is spending. your ability to control your spending, which the exception of a big expense you cannot control like a medical condition; is the greatest hinderance to retiring/climbing the wealth ladder/etc. imo, most anyone can retire earlier than expected even on an...

Re: Resources for those who are trying to find the right retirement location

I highly recoomend using Zillow to see what housing is available in your price range if you are considering moving to a place you have not previous live in, Zillow can break it down to zip codes in some cases and even neighborhood in some cities.

Re: ERE City (US)

I looked for somewhere else to put this but did not see a place; so I put it here as I have been designating Manchester, NH as my ERE city and it was initially one of the primary ERE cities. I was looking at commutting to Boston from Manchester just in case my finances in ERE took a header and I ne...

Re: Coffee consumption questions

you need to find a brewed coffee you like and buy it en mass, that will cut your costs down.

keurig cups are not very frugal for mostly coffees you can brew yourself.

Re: What Do You Eat for Weight Loss?

The others here that say it's really how much you eat that are correct. you could eat candy bars but as long as you stay significantly below your basic metabolism rate, say 1200 calories on a 1800 BMR; you will lose if you can maintain that basically 6 days out of 7 for a year. you most likely gaine...

Why you guys want to quit nature's most perfect drug is beyond me.

It tastes great, not detrimental in non-extreme quantities except thru fast food drive thrus and is the perfect pickup for a little extra.

A little foldgers between your cheek and gum, that's start your morning.

Infographic-building wealth on minimum wage.

I do not post here a lot anymore because I have decided what my financial goals are in life and they will not change, although I do owe a debt to ERE and MMM for learning to shake consumerism and become FIRE. I will never again be owned by a job, mortgage, car, etc; and that transformation is becaus...

Re: Vacation

My thoughts on vacation is that if I feel I need to "vacate" [on occasion] it means that there's something wrong with my lifestyle (what I do, where I live, ...). So rather than go on vacation to fix the symptoms, I fix the entire disease by relocating to the place, by changing work, ...,...
