Re: hmm.. which car?

Except in Norway, they made the electric car so appealing that households that would have been limited to one instead bought two cars, with pretty much no infrastructure tax benefit. Countries should introduce EV subsidies in a way that doesn’t widen inequality or stimulate car use at the expense of...

Re: chatGPT

@jennypenny Np. There are lots of places (besides Amazon) you can set up a paperback (or hardback, whatever) for print on Demand and only sell to yourself. A print run is cheaper, yes, but once the book is set-up, you can order more copies later. You can even update, etc. Maybe a combo of the two ve...

@jennypenny
You could set up a subscription service on a place like ream. Only your subscribers would get your content. I think some authors plan on hiding out there.

A nicer way to say it would be “those answers are in the journal.” No need for unpleasantness.

Also, C40, it’s been a while. How is the language school going?

Re: My Principles for Income Investing

Reading the Permanent Portfolio might bring you some interesting information for allocations if you are risk adverse. https://www.amazon.com/Permanent-Portfolio-Long-Term-Investment-Strategy-ebook/dp/B0097VBOHG At the very least it covers deflationary periods, and high interest periods, both of whic...

According to my vet, bats making their way inside is the number one way 100%- indoor cats get rabies. Unless it is a shots-for-all fest, I’d not recommend sicking a cat on a bat.

Of course, I might have an abnormally close relationship with my particular cat.

Wow, lots of good stuff. Perhaps Myo therapy would help your guy? There are lots of free videos on youtube to get an idea of it. Also, this guy https://drtheodorebelfor.com has been training people around the world with his device. I read about it in the book Breathe https://www.amazon.com/Breath-Ne...

Re: How much do you worry about routine exposure to toxins? (Cleaning products and additives linked to cancer, etc)

I have chemical sensitivity, so don’t have much choice. My body lets me know pretty quickly. My dream is to build my own house, not because I want to have a luxury house, but because I could keep formaldehyde etc out. Barring that, an old house is best. Solid wood and plaster. Things already vented ...

Re: COL comparision: eye surgery vs contact lenses vs eyeglasses

With glasses you can buy differentials, i.e. lenses that are 1 to 1.5 diopters lighter in strength, for use at the computer. What you don't want to be doing is having glasses that are great for far vision (if you're near sighted) and then using the same glasses up close. That is how vision gets prog...

Outside perspective and suggestion: Write up the stories you tell your kids. 1. You can relive your memories. 2. You are starting to make your own IP. (Intellectual Property). 3. You could look into publishing them. Easy these days. Being an author might suit you best. In the meantime, congrats on t...

Re: Learning to learn. Physics PhD style.

This thread from the beginning is fantastic. I don’t know where Jacob has the patience to go into such detail and explanations, but they seem spot on. Physics was a love of mine for years and years and will always have a special place for it. Still making money from it, but not so much in the resear...

Re: Exactly how cheap can housing be made?

Honestly it's generally amazing, very low COL (almost half that of the UK) great weather, safe, easy to live car free, friendly. Let me know if you ever want any info or advice. Wow, that’s great to know. Was thinking about living in some places as a renter for a while to check them out. Maybe that...

Hehe  I think you are an EU citizen though so you shouldn't have any problems if you buy. I own somewhere in the Algarve and I've had no issues at all. I would definitely recommend Portugal if you are looking at buying somewhere. Thank is excellent news. I don't think the citizenship has reall...

What are these changes ? I have not heard of any problems. Hi Chenda - I went looking for the info again but couldn't find it. I sort of checked out after a bit on it because, yeah, it sounded like a hassle and when I noped out my brain flushed the info. Anyhow, if I recall correctly it was t...

Has anyone mentioned Clifton Strengths? This comes at from the paradigm of why develop something you’ll only ever be adequate (at best), when you can develop something you are naturally good at into something spectacular. In the end I find it as useful a tool as Mbti, although in different ways.

I liked MySpace too. Seemed to meet more cool people than any other place since. I don't know how either... we all seemed to stumble upon one another.

The blinged out (in the effort, not the money sense) profile probably did a lot of the sorting.

This has been rather depressing for me in I realized I would probably just get a job in the same field I made my money in (they are more than a little desperate for workers) and carry on. Current good credit means than even if family or friends were not available for short term help, an extended sta...

Re: Learning to learn. Physics PhD style.

As a physicist (phd), with a physicist father (phd), he gave me some great advice: you won’t always understand everything the first time you see it. Just memorize the rules in those cases and trust the understanding will come. These were pretty rare occasions, but that advice helped a lot in those. ...

This constant changing is why I crossed Portugal off the possibilities list - not even mostly for the cost, but for maintaining mental health. There are homeowners there now going through the wringer with unexpected massive changes. When I saw the home buying information, along with all the other fa...
