Re: Rube's journal
@DG in our new house it is not more noisy, but somewhat different type of noises. Also depending on the wind direction. We will move our bedroom to another location in the house, which I am currently working on, with a lot of insulation (both for heat/cold and sound). So that part should be better i...

Re: DutchGirl's journal
Hi DG, taking some time off and having some distance from your normal job is doing you good, on several aspects, it seems. Your reason #2 to not jump the ship earlier is not a valid reason imo, they can sort it out. #1 can be valid (perhaps, depending wat type of agreement/promise you made) and #3 i...

Re: On deleting journals, posts, and accounts
ok, i'm being a little cartoonish to make a point, but your different perspectives won't be bridged easily. so you guys might want to agree to disagree, and not take it personally, because clearly you have different ideologies regarding certain things, and you can't convince each other that your ow...

Re: Rube's journal
Thanks @BlueNote @Liberatemind and @Dutchgirl. He's fine again other than a little low on energy. A very special forum, three person from three different continents reaching out. DG you're right, simply having more time available as a family during the the school summer holiday will be good for us. ...

Re. the float/valve: as a landlord I am happy to reimburse the renter for such things and I have done this on a couple of occasions. It's easier/cheaper for me and sometimes faster/easier for the renter, win-win.

Re: Rube's journal
Several things happened in the last couple of months, but it feels like nothing really major worth to write about. Just...living, working (a bit), working on the house, making plans for the house, possible travel, enjoy time together, administration, cleaning, finding new renters etc. You know just ...

@pilgrim, our kids were 4 and 7 when we started our journey here in 2012. We're located in Europe, so might be too different to be of much help.
Good luck with the journey!

Re: On deleting journals, posts, and accounts
Several journals were absolutely a great inspiration and motivation to me when I started with my own path. Over the years they have become less important for me, because I had read and internalized lots of the information. But for newcomers a lot of interesting information has gone, which I think is...

Re: C40's Journal
Great update C40, thanks. For me it has been a long time ago I lived for a (short) period in Asia. Before going, I had heard a lot about "culture shock" etc. but for me that was more an issue upon returning to my home country as it took me a long time to settle in and feel normal again. An...

Re: Frugal chicos journal - ERE in Spain
A tax specialist sounds like the right person to consult. Perhaps the company setup might also create some tax benefits / possibilities (like deferring profit for later years against a lower tax %, rent a room from your own home, write offs of phone, laptop etc.). If in the end Spain is not working ...

Re: Electric Vehicles
Walking is nice but slow. Sometimes it is difficult to have everything, shops, nature, train station, schools within a short walking distance. Hence I love bicycles as they enable us to provide this all to us within a 5-15 min bike ride. And bikes are easy to maintain yourself with a standard set of...

Re: Rube's journal
We're very fortunate with having two healthy children who are doing well. It is interesting to see their development and personal interests. In the last few weeks: DD of 15 y/o scored C1 on her English test and DS of 12 y/o published his first songs on all major streaming services and almost finishe...
