Re: Smashter's Great Adventure

Stasher your journey to parenthood is pretty wild.

Usually you don’t end up with two biological siblings 3.5 months apart😂. Enjoy your experience and unusual circumstances. I hope both little fellas are born knowing night is for sleeping.😴

@Stasher

When you are ready to visit the US plan a visit (avoid the Rally). There is a long lovely bike path. Another nice feature of the area is the microclimates. If you are in a spot that is too hot or too cold you can always just drive 30 minutes find better weather.

Currently in the Teddy ...

I would put it SGOV

Not subject to state income tax.

More Japan questions

It sounds like it is safe and accessible to camp?
I wonder how how hard the driving on the left is?

I saw some cheap campervan relocation for when we are planning on being there.

Re: Quality resources on Small Apartment Living?

@Jacob
We call that a one butt kitchen.
In our camper we also practice the “hug and turn” as a way to get from one end to the other.

The Apartment Therapy website used to do lots of tour of small thoughtful spaces I think it has morphed into a consumerist platform to sell you stuff.

While I didn’t partake this year
I usually dumpster diving on the college campus near my previous home
Things that seem to be reliable scavenged are towels, cleaning supplies, waste baskets, and canned food.

Anyway it’s always interesting

Re: US low cost living

I’m going to respectfully disagree with Jacob that the low cost American small towns being some monolith of anti-intellectualism and poverty. There are small towns in my home state that are inhabited by only the very elderly and very addicted. There are others that are ultra clean and super ...

South Dakota

I can sign up for healthcare from a mailbox service. We have lived in that area previously and know a few providers and have a social network to ask other people.

We might post up in Dubuque and/or Decorah sometime this summer. They are a couple of our favorites.

Re: US long-term capital gains tax

@zbigi

And it can be more than $96k you quoted. There are a many other tax credits built into the system. EV credits, adoption credits, education credits.

We had dependent adult credit and the American Opportunity Credit to claim last year which yielded a $3k credit and almost $45k more of untaxed ...

One of my dreams (feverish fantasies, really) is how some day there will be "professors of stupidity". There's so little research and study done when it comes to bad thinking that even simple stuff like behavioral economics wins Nobel prizes. ERE is not rocket science per se. What makes it ...

April 2025 update: Things are really shifting for me in wonderful ways. My biggest takeaway is investing my life energy in myself and people who can engage in reciprocal relationships. Prior to that comes self-love and personal responsibility. Some struggle to move away from the self-absorption ...

Wandered around my most productive morel spot the day before that. DS’s went fishing together yesterday after work. DH put up the oriel ...

@WRC
You are right.
I looked it up. In our county this considered a subdivision regardless of if it is gifted or sold. She can’t just find a lawyer and make it happen. Not sure about the easement/access issues.

I might keep this to myself as it will slow things down and I am trying to buy myself ...

Actually walked the proposed lines.

Section C has no existing access to the road and building a driveway would require extensive culvert and grading and then still does not allow non-walking access to the ag land in the back

Section B is clearly the best and the only way to access C and ...

The undercard could be the Ingalls siblings fighting over Grandpa Jed's moonshine recipes. Of course Piers would have to explain the Hillbilly tradition of eye gouging so no one accuses Jethro of breaking any types of rules when Ellie Mae gets off the mat with her optic nerves exposed.

We have ...
