Re: Learn to be easy to live with?

I don't have much to add other than... Know yourself and your limitations, there are just too many variables to think of all the different scenarios in advance when living with another person. Regardless of how hard you try, accept the fact that some people don't mix or that you wont get along with ...

Re: The next big thing

Asia. Approximately 15 years ago i've noticed people on the streets of taiwan and japan carrying power banks (portable phone chargers). It made alot of sense to them as most were dependent on public transportation so once they left their homes it would be next to impossible to have their phones char...

Re: Mortgage Question

With the high prop taxes and ever increasing HOA fees it appears that you've basically answered the large portion of your dilemma. If you don't foresee your family in the current house in the next 6 years and out in as short as 3 years, i'd focus on selling while the tide is and demand is through th...

Re: A comfortable bed

most will frown over this idea. Over the weekend i've landed a $1000 queen sized memory foam mattress that the purchaser had for 2 weeks and didn't like because it was too firm. The company had a full satisfaction guarantee so they got their refund and the company didn't want the merchandise back du...

Re: Buying a Tailored Suit

I want to have a baller suit that fits impeccably. Would you be able to describe what that looks like or post a pic of your idea of perfection? Fit and style of a suit range quite widely depending on the age of the person who's wearing it, what era a style they are trying to replicate as well as th...

@aptruncata A spot welder is generally used for welding two pieces of sheet metal together. I don't think that is what you are doing.
Thanks for the correction. Meant to weld a small section or a spot; not spot welder or spot weld.

Re: Minimalist welding skill and equipment acquisition

It's a great idea. Back couple years ago, I needed to spot weld a bull bar on our Suzuki samurai and some spot welding on the exhaust. The mobil welders quoted $150 for the exhaust and for the bull bar, it was about $200 for 4 sections of 3" welds. Decided to pickup a Hobart handler 140 and fir...

Re: Best way to care for leather shoes and boots?

That is interesting; I'd bet that if I asked my two primary groups of friends (my salarymen neighbors vs. my more blue collar church friends), I'd get a similar response--most if not all of the salarymen don't own polish or shoe oil, whereas I'd bet ALL of my church friends not only own polish and/...

Re: Best way to heat house while keeping humidity?

humidity also drags down the dust that are floating around which is a nice added bonus.
I wake early so I usually just have a pot of water on simmer on the colder than normal and drier than normal days.

For instance, when I built in 2009ish, 7/16 OSB had been close to $10 sheet a year before. In 2009, it was $5/sheet. It's $28.05 as of today. It will return to around $10 at some point.
That is wild. Thanks again for your input, it is much appreciated.

Re: Adu anyone?

For this reason, ADU and SFU, or MDU are entirely separate categories of construction, and have differing costs. Same methods, materials, and labor but entirely different regulatory costs, and different sales/rental values. Apples, oranges, bananas. Go in with a positive attitude, the understanding...

Re: Adu anyone?

Thank you for the links. SFR here are well above 500-700k and even when assuming they are all inclusive, $3-400/sq.ft. in my opinion is heavily inflated. For example, my insurance policy will rate at a replacement cost of $200 to upwards of $250/sq.ft. for a higher end homes in my area. (this is ofc...

Re: Electric Vehicles

Not to steer off topic but it's abit strange how costs and savings of everything is considered and split to down to the penny yet safety is not. With exception of Tesla line vehicles, most if not all electric/hybrid vehicles are small/compact vehicles that are made with weight saving material to pri...

I've explored this part of my expense when i purchased my first home back 10 years ago. -the sewer charge is based on your use which does not account for water use age that clearly does not go down the drain : car wash, landscape and swimming pools (water evaporates and you need to refill it). -afte...

Re: Applying window putty?

It would depend on the condition of the window sills, budget and time you have.
For a window that is on its last leg, you can use a dab or tube of liquid nail (exterior use) and paint over it after curing.
($3.00) for a tube, water and weather resistant worked quite well for my needs.

Re: Raw, whole-food, plant-based diet?

I think the biggest hurdle would be to change the way you think. It's not a diet but more of a way of life. Most people do not need all the fat and carbs available to us and really don't need the whole 3 meals a day plus the snacks and sugary drinks in between. Say if you had a large apple, banana, ...
