I'm not one to tell you how to invest, but I'm happy to provide some data to help you make that decision for yourself. ;)

Re: Nationalism on the Rise: Us vs Them

PS: I'm mainly talking about the bad kind of nationalism here. The callous kind that hurts "them". I do recognize that there's also a good kind of nationalism---but that's usually called patriotism and there's a rather different sentiment behind that. The two concepts are not interchangeable! See h...

Re: Nationalism on the Rise: Us vs Them

Don't get me wrong -- I have no doubt that potentially dangerous nationalist groups exist. I just think the population who really buys into that stuff is a small minority that gets way more press than they deserve and one should not lump everyone together. Richard Spencer does not represent your ave...

Re: Nationalism on the Rise: Us vs Them

IMHO, nationalism is real but for the most part is not the sensationalized caricature that some people make it out to be. Pride in one's nation is historically very mainstream and not at all hateful. But modern politics drives people crazy and has them seeing evil in every shadow.

Re: The Trump Problem (the real one)

@Jacob -- The county thing is indeed pretty amazing, although I'm not sure that's isolated to poor areas nor to immigration attitudes. I remember being a bit taken aback by the stories of some of the young people I met who grew up in the Bay Area and had never really experienced anywhere more than a...

A short test. I scored 29%. :o https://www.additudemag.com/adhd-symptoms-test-adults/ I started but got distracted and moved on to something more interesting. :D Just kidding -- I got a 61%. I don't consider myself ADHD, just scatter-brained in the good way where I can process a lot of information ...

Tyler9000-The wage poor, latee-sucking, urban hipster, barely getting by in today's gig economy... Sounds like a mainstream news article? That would be funny. I'd totally play it cool while slowly ramping up the ERE references. "Yeah, living on a part time salary can be a challenge. I think being a...

When I hit FI I took a full year off of work, did a full year of project-based consulting, and eventually decided that a consistent 3 days a week without any notable management responsibilities was the best balance of leisure and profitable intellectual stimulation. I reserve the right to change my ...

Re: Leaving a job before the one year mark?

I've left a new job after only three months. Twice, actually. People do occasionally ask about it, and I just say that I respect the company I left but found that the new one was a much better personal fit both for me and the company and explain why. I've not found it to be a big deal, at least in m...

She started it actually. It's what happens when you put two INFJs in a room maybe :P Well, in that case I guess she got exactly what she bargained for. ;) I'm probably just old-fashioned, but after living in both an uber-conservative Dallas suburb and uber-liberal Silicon Valley I generally find th...

Re: Spent $60 on an in-person date. Fuck that

Just spent $60 on a date with a woman who showed up an hour late and proceeded to say that it's okay that 6 people own the majority of wealth, because they give people jobs. We all just need to work hard enough. She then went on about her plan to make it big in real estate and business and to not b...

Re: How much will you pay for college/have paid for you?

I graduated from a decent (but not premier) private school in 2000. It has been a while so my memory is a little foggy, but I want to say it cost about $10k a semester for tuition and fees which I remember thinking was insane at the time. I had a half scholarship, so my bill was about $40k total and...

But, please give a therapist a visit, or at least a doctor. I'd recommend both. A therapist can definitely help you with your mental funk, and a simple blood panel can identify any potential deficiencies (vitamin D, thyroid, etc) that may be compounding the problem. Also, just the act of proactivel...

I think right now there are lot of businesses that could pay SF Bay Area salaries to their employees but chose not ...

Re: US Politicking

I do find it plausible that the leaks are real but the news is fake. That can take two forms. First, insiders may be deliberately leaking bad intel to advance their own interests as JP suggests. Or more interestingly, the Trump team could be feeding enticing (but ultimately false) info into the poli...

ABC was forced to retract their Flynn story. They tried to call it a clarification and got vilified, even within the press. They then went with 'correction' but ended up pulling the story and tweets and putting out new material. Ross is probably toast. This isn't his first big mistake and media out...
