Re: More men than women interested in FIRE/ERE?

I decided to jump in and post because I am a women and a data scientist and a lurker on these forums. I have no idea whether I am representative of most women, but I read these forums all the time. What I love about the ERE forum is that I tend to get a new perspective on issues that makes me think ...

Re: sexual misconduct

@jennypenny "I can't let your suggestion that women who voted for Trump ignored this issue go unchallenged." And I can't let your rationalization go unchallenged. I have been a fan of your posts for a long time but this is very personal for me. I have a special needs son, now an adult. A s...

Re: Take redundancy package or stay on?

"My biggest expense in the next 4 years will be child-care." Take the package and stay home. No child care costs, your expenses are covered and you can even save money. Gives you plenty of time to see what else is out there and your family life will be much more relaxed. My two cents anyway.

Re: Anyone doing data science/analysis as career/hobby?

I have been having a great time playing with all the data at my company. But doing real data science is not anything like working with a Kaggle competition dataset. Real data is dirty, messy, hard to access and not well understood even by the people using it. Before I started working at this company...

Re: Anyone doing data science/analysis as career/hobby?

I'm a data scientist for an automotive company in the Detroit area. It's great fun. Tons of data to play with and all kinds of problem solving. There is some corporate stuff that comes along with working for a large company but I just ignore most of it. Data science is so new in the automotive indus...

Re: GandK's journal

I loved your spreadsheet. Can you tell me where you found the Migraine Index for each state?

I also wanted to let you know that Michigan does tax pensions.

I'm surprised that your spreadsheet doesn't include anything about weather and walkability.

We are pretty used to long, bitter winters here in the Detroit area.

My daughter will be going to McGill University in the fall. One of the main reasons that she picked it is because she has fallen in love with Montreal. I look forward to driving her there in August.

Re: What's your parenting philosophy?

I have to agree with henrik. I had lots of philosophies and lots of ideas on what would work. Now I think parenting is like a wild, unpredictable amusement park ride. Sometimes you are going at a nice comfortable speed when out of nowhere the ride will speed up and throw you around. There is always ...

Re: Genetic intelligence in decline

Sorry, not buying this at all. Who says that responding to a visual stimuli is highly correlated with IQ scores? It's hard to believe that a simple one time measurement can predict within a 95% CI an IQ score. If this were true, why would we even give the IQ test? Also, did you look at that machine ...

I live in Bloomfield, btw.

<t>Wow! It's tough to post after a story like that.<br/> I have a STEM degree and got a good job after college. My parents were always good with money but didn't discuss it at home. I made a nice salary and didn't spend much so I automatically saved and invested. <br/> But after I got married and st...
