Re: AE's Journal Round 6 - Navigating the Liminal Space
And if anyone has suggestions for where I should try first, I'd love to hear it! Currently, the list includes Washington DC, NYC, and San Fransisco. All big cities and the most expensive ones in the country as well? Any particular reason? My travel advice, which usually doesn't go over well, is to ...

Re: Advanced Retroadaptics Podcast
Mostly I was just reflecting on how sometimes something can be a "solved problem' in general terms, even when it isn't a solved problem in concrete terms in the moment. Maybe it depends on where/how the "slack" in the system is stored/maintained? These are some of the problems I'm gr...

Re: ERE City (US)
I think the blue is only for residential speed limits (lower than 25mph), so I agree that it is not very useful and may actually be misleading. The points they assign to cities seem to align well with my experience in the cities I biked at though. "Berwyn" is a bit underreported in your d...

More generally, what do people here think of New Haven and thereabouts in terms of ERE friendliness? DW and I are talking some potential mid-term life plans. I don't know the area. I was expecting "rich New Yorker"-prices, but surprisingly that's not the case. https://www.zillow.com/homed...

Which is why I believe “the stock market is an inflation hedge” to be a mostly true statement Sort of yes. A simple model is price = price/earnings * earnings. Inflation tends to increase earnings, but the market tends to decrease the p/e multiple due to uncertainty about how much of the increased ...

Re: Investments Trade Log
The markets are currently euphoric without any apparent reason. A few reasons ... US unemployment has not been this low in many decades. Wages are increasing faster than consumer prices, so real incomes are up. US energy production is higher than ever and increased energy production translates into...

Re: What doesn't kill you might make you dumber?
Well, if you have both ... but I understood the point as being that AI would replace one or the other. A collaboration between two people (or entities) who each understand half the problem will never ever be as effective as one person who understands both due to the limits of the Q&A channel of ...

Re: What doesn't kill you might make you dumber?
I suspect researchers at any level that are not integrating AI into their workflow are becoming dinosaurs. Remember that AI is a much broader category than chatbots. The creative spark is essential but tends to get bogged down in the memorization of facts and trivial calculations. Researchers that ...

Just tagging onto what @Laura Ingalls said… I’d be curious which IQ test they were using and whether or not it was an abbreviated version (potentially less accurate). Also, I wonder about the sample: size as well as finding individuals who’d take the same test prior to COVID. Most adults haven’t ta...

I'll do a shorter one. An entropic pocket is the same as what permaculturists call edge-spaces. A space of high-interaction between differences. It helps to understand what entropy actually is. Lets metaphorically consider rolling two dies. The result of adding can be anywhere between 2 and 12. Some...

Re: What doesn't kill you might make you dumber?
Regularly engaging in creative problem solving boosts intelligence. It has to be uncomfortably hard. This means learning new things, not just repeating or improving on old lessons. Most people stop doing that after graduating college.

I'm curious if you have ever grown more cynical after seeing things from different levels? Maybe this was/is just a military thing for me, but I'd say that there were times when seeing things from a higher leader's perspective was more demoralizing than anything else because I realized that the inc...

Let me explain something to readers: this coin is trading at a market cap of 200+million. Does that mean its worth 200 million? No. There is only $2.5 million in liquidity (see screenshot). The way an automated market maker works means that if you tried to sell 2 million dollars worth of this you w...

Perhaps people are looking for title or status but sometimes we are looking for greater responsibility. I know that my job satisfaction grows with increased responsibility, as long as I am given the authority to execute the changes I desire. In Spiral Dynamics, this [regret] is all color Orange. Th...

Re: ADHD meds
I really hope we don't turn a question about meds into a question about the disease itself. If a forumite has asked about the meds, chances are they've over-researched and overanalyzed the topic for themselves (our specialty on the forum ;) ). Maybe worth noting - a diagnosis is based upon a collec...

Another analogy might be how tutoring is often bimodal between the freedom-from F-students, who are looking to pass, and freedom-to A-students, who are looking for a perfect score.

Current score : NA Houseless since October 2022. It would be 0 if you live rent-free in a restaurant where you also work (or not) and eat all your meals. Even someone who lives on the street would likely have a non-zero score. Otherwise, it's calculated like this: Based on this, I propose the follo...

I think doing some chat therapy with one of these systems would be super interesting. Certainly better than https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA ... I suspect one problem with an internet based analysis is that it might miss someone's development (if any) over time. I for one would prefer not to hav...
