Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

So, isn’t there some level on which ERE also means striving for that level of lifestyle with least expense? Obviously yes, that's what I'm doing. I'm not particularly motivated to become a farmer or a permaculturist. This is also why ERE is somewhat wider and more open-ended in scope when it comes ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I know it was just for illustration, but for those who are really interested in big science experiments ... For CERN, you can actually go with a simple bus ticket (it's a little out of the way from the train station). See https://visit.cern/guided-tours-individuals ... Notice how CERN has its own to...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

For what it's worth, I often talk about how ERE (WL7) is simply a smart version of home economics the way our grandparents understood it and how they would have lived if they had good access to a few modern conveniences such as penicillin, the internet, and the 20th century productivity gains that w...

Re: "how to talk to others" vs "this is ere"

So if I understand this correctly, which I'm not sure I do, we're now aiming for 3 different functions? (For the purpose of describing these functions, I don't care so much about the form. Forms are mainly limited by my budget---I'm not running a major enterprise with regular access to 5-6 fig kicks...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I'm glad this worked out amiably and that the forum didn't explode overnight. A bunch of things ... The Wheaton table was originally designed because it was a recurring problem that someone figured that all they needed to do to solve "their friend's financial problem" was to point them tow...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

my criticism is not "tldr", my criticism is some aspects of this theorization (purposefully?) obscure what should be clear concepts because they are just a recombination of things we already know. Or, no offense although I suppose it's hard not to, but maybe you don't know as much as you ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

Before [...] get carried away with all the excitement, it should be noted that the illustrations do miss quite a few aspects of the ERE-design philosophy. It is a somewhat simplified drawing much like a square with a triangle on top of it is not really a house as much as it conveys the idea of a hou...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

Going back to the ERE book, "Coordinate" is when comprehension has reached the "LEGO"-level (there's a section). Another way of framing it is when the components of thinking [about the particular yield] have become part of one's active vocabulary. IOW, WL6 might understand system...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

@Quadalupe - Nice! Our WL7/8ish garden setup has the soil coming in for free from the local forestry/sewage plant. Seeds are partially bought and partially saved from the garden. Some harvested veggies also go to neighbors and coworkers---cakes and cookies sometimes come back. It's clear how these d...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

Should also note that the reason that the "live close enough to work so you can walk and get exercise while saving the car" pops up as the most common example of a system is because most people are able to Coordinate a relocation and Coordinate their own legs for autokinesis. It's an easie...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I'd never quite connected the "skills bar graph" and "web of goals" concepts together like this. It's somewhat explained (I hope) when I talk about the two slides that follow that one. Here's what I had in my "lecture"-notes when talking about the capital (coordinate/c...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

Is that really true though because my understanding - correct me if I'm wrong - vaccines are not 100% effective, especially with variants ? So the irresponsibly non-vaccinted are still a threat to the responsibily vaccinated. The 30% or so who don't want the vaccine will become a de facto reservoir...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

I am not privy to her reasoning, but in my state the governor is not choosing to return to lock-down even though cases have sky-rocketed, and I think this is because she is trying to act in sync with the will of the people in a new landscape where the vast majority of those at risk have been availe...

Latticework book

https://www.amazon.com/Super-Thinking-Book-Mental-Models/dp/0525533583/ I didn't think it could be done but someone went ahead and did it anyway. They did a good job too. If only the title/cover design hadn't been so gimmicky. It betrays the much more serious/adulting content inside. Then again, we ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

But still at level 6 these different things are separate, I think. They're not all tied together and reinforcing each other. The social capital is still quite separate from my personal development of skills, and none of the part time work I do is particularly aligned with my value system (though I ...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

An old post of mine reminded me of a better way to think about the J&J vaccine, not that it matters (unless you're a J&J shareholder) since other vaccines are available, unless they're not. http://earlyretirementextreme.com/my-hdhp-hsa-and-some-comments-on-health-care.html Specifically, NNT ...

Received my first Pfizer shot yesterday. IL finally opened up for "the other 60%" (inessential non/workers between 16 and 65). Things to report: Online booking at an IL mass vaccination site (empty store at a strip mall). Booking was no problem (there were open slots available for hours) a...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

so the unanswered question for me is what is the object/what is the purpose. if you have to ask, you'll never know? ok then.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think it's been answered before or at least I feel like I have to repeat or reference back all the time. Sometimes I get the impression that whatever points made...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

70 is a big number, especially since comparing deaths to serious hospitalizations. Dunno what the current survival rate is in ICU. It used to be ~50%, so maybe closer to 1:140 odds for an ICU outcome. IIRC, the Italian comorbidity numbers for "lifestyle-diseases" were high but not ~100 tim...

CDC statement: https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s0413-JJ-vaccine.html Looks like CDC and the FDA is recommending the same approach as several EU countries WRT the AstraZeneca vaccine which has had similar problems. Summary: 6 (six) out of 6.8M vaccinated or roughly 1 in a million have develop...
