it is strange to assume a higher than average return for people who know very little about personal finance, but as mentioned earlier perhaps they'll die right away so it won't matter if their funds don't last them more than 10 years.

when I travel I try to find a hostel and stay in the room with multiple bunk beds. I'll buy bread, bananas, and other cheap food in the market and go to food stands on the street for most of the rest.
