Re: Financial Freedom

When you say "milk product" was it raw milk, pasteurized milk, cheese, or fermented milk like yogurt? These are very different and you may be able to tolerate fermented milk products just fine!

Re: 7Wannabe5- Take 6

Did you ever notice anything change during your cycle? If so, that might add some credence to your hormone theory. For example, estrogen helps break down histamine, so right before ovulation, for example, my systemic nickel allergy is the least problematic. Were there any other big changes during th...

Re: what would you do? try to go to med school?

@alphaville et al, really good points and questions that are quite relevant in this decision. The military would be too much commitment in the sense that I would lose all choice about where in the world I would live for residency and then four years afterwards, but I would have more ability to choos...

Re: what would you do? try to go to med school?

Yeah @Ego @ertyu this is definitely a far cheaper option, but returning to the states for residency is much much harder. It's not impossible, but the barriers are high. Also, I am not interested in living out of the states or even traveling again any time soon. Living outside the states for 1.5 year...

Re: what would you do? try to go to med school?

Confession : I am currently in the medical school application cycle and have one interview invite for the end of this month. Only ~40% of applicants get in, so who knows if I will be successful, but this is what I've secretly been working towards for a few years now. I already semi-ERE'd many years...

I am so sorry you are in this situation! Because I am a nutritional therapy hammer, I am going to do that annoying thing and give you advice you didn't ask for. I am going to tell you to make chicken broth. You know; Jewish penicillin. I don't mean the long bone broth, but the good short 3-5 hour me...

Re: 4622. Matrix. Kaizen. Reckoning. Adaptation. Whistling.

I recently added some rice noodles I had in my cupboard to my weekly chicken stock to do a noodle soup of sorts that you can add meat to on any given day. I added some shallots, juliened carrot, and some bok choy that was going bad. Then the next day I saw shrimp were on sale so I stir fried those w...

Re: Greetings All

Hi @free40! Welcome! I've been mostly off this board the last several years, but have recently returned! I think I "retired" at 31 (I'm 38 now) but I have also worked stints, traveled a lot, started a very small business, gone back to part time school, etc. I do what I want. I actually don...

Re: C40's Journal

I love the ubiquitous coffee shops all over Vietnam. They're a great place to chill out and people watch. I actually also like Vietnamese coffee, but it's definitely not the same as the arabica varieties more appreciated in other countries. I also remember enjoying the coffee in Vietnam quite a bit...

Re: Early retirement without home ownership

I used to paint walls at every place I rented and would just paint back over it except one private home where I rented a room and they liked it so much I left it. I was in a royal-blue-walls-and-red-curtains phase then. I like bright colors. However, I've moved on from painting. Since spending some ...

Re: Early retirement without home ownership

I've been semi-ERE for many years now and have had to find rentals three times. The first time, I rented a room from a friend, so that was easy. The second time, it was a big management company, so I was worried about not having a job. They had me upload the last 3 months of checking statements and ...

"How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World" by Harry Browne - A yearly read since 2014? I probably skim half and linger on the half that's relevant to what I'm struggling with at the time. His "traps" are great and I often refer to them when talking with my friends about the false t...

Re: Getting food from $200/mo to $100/mo? Adventures in making your own food!

Lately I've been volunteering two mornings a week in a kitchen that feeds the homeless, people in an addiction recovery program, etc, and they practically force me to bring leftovers and overstocked food home every time. I also volunteer once a week at a food bank where cars drive through and we thr...

Re: Anyone gone to a functional medicine doctor?

@juliusFC Yeah, GAPS intro can take quite a while depending on the person and you need to go through the phases carefully and really wait for symptoms to subside before moving to the next phase. On average people need to stay on it for at least 18 months. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. :( ...

Re: Anyone gone to a functional medicine doctor?

I'm coming from a very biased position here, but one with a few years of experience now as a nutritional therapy practitioner (my chosen post-ERE career) . . . I love the idea of Functional Doctors/Naturopaths, but I find that many of them still lean on a lot of flawed tests (the IgE panel drives me...

Re: Coffee: is it good for you, bad, or it depends?

So I haven't been around that much this year (though I've been lurking here and there). While recovering from my TBI I decided to change careers and focus on learning about nutrition on a deeper level so I could help people with what I consider to be the most foundational thing you can do for your h...

Re: What set off my allergies??

I am just going to post here quickly, but I have a lot more to say about this. I've spent this entire year studying Nutritional Therapy, and a BIG factor in allergies is actually intestinal health and how permeable your gut is. The more permeable and more time your gut is spent not being as selectiv...

Re: Work vs. Exercise

oh and i forgot to mention; with the 2 lbs overnight increase in weight . . . that was almost certainly water weight. you worked hard, you worked your muscles, and your body inflamed a little bit to heal those muscles, so it drew water there. it is likely that you would drop that 2 lbs off again wit...
