Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

I'm very interested to see what value you find from the service. Access to a Galleri test is one of the "exclusive" perks of my wife's concierge doctor. Pricing is similar. It's not something we've pursued, due to age. I think there's a time where it's worthwhile, if one has the resources....

Re: ADHD meds

Your problem is a little different, in that starting required facing novelty. Learning. Experimentation. The tools were literally in my car. The diagnostic steps - previously documented, for my car, on my phone. The fact that I didn't? I had reasons. I assumed the mechanic simply didn't reset the ti...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Have you looked into a concierge medicine service? A few years ago, my doctor moved to the MDVIP model. He then removed the middle man and went straight concierge. For about $2500 a year, you get the medicine 3.0 labs array. But also in person stuff. EKG, grip strength, balance on a force plate, etc...

Re: ADHD meds

What matters is whether one's subjective beliefs make it possible to function in objective and interobjective reality. If yes, you're good even if you're weird. ... The pathological model essentially reveals its structurally broken framework by needing to include a "high-functioning" qual...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Interesting you prioritize the LP(a) and homocysteine tests. My heart health concerns are low, so I haven't paid careful attention to what one should prioritize. I did a High Sensitivity CRP test this last go, only because all the books have talked about it. The result was boring. I have an ApoB tes...

If I was king, I'd make this part of the school curriculum. Technically it already is ... except it's dominated by a paradigm that's not aware of itself. Brings to mind this book I just read, on trauma: https://static.macmillan.com/static/fib/what-happened-to-you/ Symptoms of trauma are often mista...

Re: ADHD meds

Can one do too much self-reflection / introspection... This is worth answering. IMO there's a gap in mental healthcare. It's hard to access. Especially if one is poor, or there's a "life just be that way" mindset. Unfortunately many in the Gen X and older generations grew up with the latt...

Re: ADHD meds

Saw the guy who ran my psych tests today. I asked why giftedness didn't come up. He said that's not typically a term used in his practice. When he's seen it used, it's more typically applied to children in a classroom setting. We also talked about the working memory test, where you relay back progre...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

My first step in that path is to ask my doc to order fasting insulin as part of my pre-visit labs. If she's willing to do that I'll take that as her being open-minded enough to let me conduct my science experiment. And depending on what the numbers are (at last check my A1C was a tad high (although...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

I am thinking about trying a weighted blanket - any recommendations on which one to try? Thanks! Two types. I ordered both from Target, anticipating easy returns. I'm still waiting on the 2nd. 1. Glass beads. Heavier. Warmer. Not machine washable, so you want one with a washable cover. I went with ...

Re: ADHD meds

Thought I'd note a couple of the strategies that have been working well for me: 1. Working memory and free recall memory issues. 1.1 Preparing for activities with a launch pad. Get everything to start my day ready, in one spot. 1.2 Visible point of proximity organization. IE - all my toothcare items...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Love the experimental approach to sleep quality and recovery. I wonder about meditation or zone 2 exercise for improving resilience score. If it's based upon HRV, that's often looking for more parasympathetic promoting activity in your day. For sleep - I am currently trying a weighted blanket. Nothi...

Re: ADHD meds

Currently looking for a doctor who can prescribe... That was a recent discovery for me. Stimulants are a controlled substance. Doctors may be reluctant to prescribe them. Since my path started with feeling tired, it was an idea I raised to my doctor. Especially after being told I was depressed. Low...

I am trying some days taking no medication and I find it’s actually less anxiety and stress Did the doctor offer mitigating strategies, for the medication induced anxiety? A failed trial with an anti-depressant, caused me to recognize untreated anxiety. That kicked off my motivation to try more act...

@Jacob (E.g. when someone just had a baby, you're supposed to say... This is something I run into. I honestly told my friend, about their shy baby - "well, I don't like him either!" Weak response inhibition, a sub-trait of the executive function. It's called out in one of the ADHD books. I...

@theanimal - fair points, understood. I am specifically interested in @mF's motivation, in that he's built several "bolt-tightening" skills to the deep specialist level. And he has a significant and diversified portfolio of capital to draw upon. He's already robust and resilient, likely in...

Re: Where do you get music?

@Gilberto de Piento - What's the objection to piracy? Hassle? Morality? Legality? Wanting to support the artist? I think each of those has a different answer. I have some mp3's I ripped from CD's I since gave away. Some percentage of pirated music, going back to the original napster. And I get digit...

@Jacob - to contrast, my scores were 34/42 on RAADS, 40/50 on the AQ and 11/80 on the EQ. While the surveys are not diagnostic, it was implied confirming the obvious might be wasted effort. In hindsight, I'd have run detailed testing back then. I under appreciated the value of further breakdown. I'm...

Re: mountainFrugal Journal

Something stands out to me with your endeavors. Money isn't really a constraint, but you don't subsidize away annoying parts of reality. IE - just pay for the premium zines, but sell at standard prices. Or eat the insurance and tooling cost for bike repair, so you can play without the other overhead...
