Re: COVID topic vol 2

If it was just personal impact to consider, the gym decision would be a lot easier. But, when I choose my exposure, I'm choosing for everyone in my circle. What risk am I comfortable accepting for my aging parents? My wife with chronic illness? My friends with a recent baby? Working out at home migh...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

Humans are going to human, but as an individual, I'm going to consider measures that bring us closer to herd immunity or reduce R0. As I understand it, there's not a magic threshold. Even if we don't get to XX%, there is still protective effect moving closer. Given my tendency to socialize with like...

Re: Cannabis Microdosing

I appreciate the perspective. I've tried 5mg of THC, got some mild noticeable effect, but also dry mouth after. That was off putting. I paused for my 2nd covid vaccine. Once that settles down, I'm going to repeat 5mg again, see how it feels. I'm guessing, I'll bump to 10mg from there, confirm it is ...

As someone with almost no religious perspective, it's pretty interesting to see how you integrate the two sets of ideas.

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

Around me, housing inventory is so low, you'd never do better. Homes are going before they are listed. Given the below market price, I think any financial concerns are moot.

With that said - upkeep on property that size is significant. Is that how you want to spend your time? Would you hire help?

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

There is a disconnect from aspirational values and true values in a lot of life style design. Agreed. I do hesitate to claim values based design. I spent the morning standing in my unfinished basement, watching Undercover Brother 2. Some deadlifts happened, but very casually. Goldratt's work provid...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

Optimizing the overall system introduces localized inefficiencies. The 2nd or 3rd order effects can be more important, especially if they impact a key constraint. IMO, that's what we are debating around strength training. I think it's a lot more likely that time is a constraint, than bone density or...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I'll bite on the weight training discussion since I am very familiar with it. I see this system as lower level, but anchoring on strength as a key resource. Not to say it is bad - specialization is very effective. But how does it respond to disruption? The gym closes. An injury. A baby. Arthritis. ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I can't think of that many ways of integrating high-level strength work Isn't this a sign the system does not demand high level strength? Why add overhead for a resource that isn't constrained? If there's a fear of "well I might need it later for..." - Can the resource (strength) be devel...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

with the aim of becoming very high-functioning, rather than so-so I don't think anyone would describe me as very high functioning. My spiritual lesson was it's ok to be so-so. There's no value judgement I need to ascribe. By ceasing to strive, one creates space to experience unity with the divine. ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I love my time weight training and have zero intention of giving it up. But, I am conscious of how tremendously inefficient it is. The weight ends up exactly where it started. For all the energy expended, wear on the body, zero physical work is produced. I've always a been aware of how ridiculous th...

Re: COVID topic vol 2

I've heard it described in terms to the effect that "given the availability to effectively bulletproof vaccines to everyone who wants them, the pandemic is morally over" Getting my second shot Monday. I expect to be masked and distancing in public for a long time. Ignoring the vulnerable ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I gave away my paper book. Unfortunately the audiobook pdf doesn't include the web of goals diagram. From what I remember, it's very simplified. This thread highlights the need for an elegant visual representation of someone's web. The vast majority of people deal in pictures, not words. It's a fair...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

So, no, I haven't found a pattern of spirituality that works for me, not really. I backed into something that worked for me through yoga. I went for exercise, got euphoria. That lead to mindfulness practices, a community, etc. I followed it into philosophy, found some resonated, read on and realize...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

Isn’t it more like we are passing other resources over time? Pressed, I'd describe it as the un-manifest pool of life energy, that trickles out to us over time. This becomes wealth, relationships, skills, whatever pool of resources you want to trade on. They are all an attempt at preservation, rath...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

That implies that if I haven't yet L6-developed a sufficient number of nodes/activities in my life, no amount of WoG diagramming is going to get me to the position of operating a web that possesses tensegrity. It'll just be theoretical drawing exercises. Observation is hugely effective in evolving ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I would rate my level of lifestyle planning as roughly equivalent to that of Lucy and Ethel. I would bet you intuitively protect capacity for change. I think effective players can be characterized by what they don't do. The ERE levels are a stripping of unnecessary activity, overhead suited to othe...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

@7Wannabe5 - That all makes sense. It's clear you internalized the baseline rules but also adapt them on the fly. I think this is something most higher level players do. @ertyu - Sure. As an aside - I'm not convinced aggressive lifestyle design leads to one's "best" life. There's something...
