Re: Future of Artificial Intelligence

Oh, I agree. The accuracy is terrible and the writing has a fill-in-the-blanks feel. Years ago we were interviewed by a handful of print journalists who recorder the interviews then went away and wrote their stories. Every one of the stories had factual errors at least as consequential as these. If ...

@daylen, that is incredible. One of my results: Q: Compare and contrast the approaches to early retirement of Mr. Money Mustache and Jacob Lund Fisker. A Mr. Money Mustache and Jacob Lund Fisker are both personal finance bloggers who advocate for early retirement. However, their approaches to early ...

My used-food friend saved me these packages of whole wheat tortillas and charged me $1 for eight packages. I told him I should pay more but he insisted, saying he got them for free with a pallet and needed to get rid of them. Tortillas freeze well.

Re: Examples of ERE2.0 Lifestyles

ERE2.0 examples are hard to find because it is even more extreme than ERE1.0 and people don't have to do it. They have other options. Even the most ardent theory-driven person will give up if the theory is not enforced from above. Organic change produces more durable results than ideologically-drive...

Re: the animal's journal

Turns out, his friends had just bought the lodge a month ago and asked him to come up from Phoenix to help out and manage it in the interim (owners are in Arkansas), while working on some improvements/expansions. We keep chatting and he mentions how they are looking for a couple to run the place an...

@theanimal, our talking ratio is (1 Ego)/(3 Mrs. Ego) so the problem is inevitable. Each of us has come up with strategies to deal with the difference. Every once in a while I will open the door to the apartment and hear her chattering in the kitchen. Once, a while ago, I asked, "Who are you ta...

Re: ERE bots or no?

It could be as simple as a plugin that automatically edits the topics that some find confusing and adds explanatory hyperlink popups that demystify the confusing terms. That is relatively simple and I believe it already exists. What I had in mind is more complex and I have no idea how to implement i...

The process involves fine-tuning a GPT-3 model from OpenAI. GPT had 110 million parameters GPT-2 has 1.75bn GPT-3, now two years old, has 175 billion GPT-4 is expected to be released in a few weeks and is sticking with text generation. A bot account here on ERE with the goal of building community w...

Re: How to keep your financial accounts safe?

SMS/Text is much better than nothing, but not a great two factor auth solution. It is vulnerable to a variety of low hanging attacks. Ability to use solely a physical security token, strongly influenced our choice of bank and brokerage. Some places let you configure the physical token as an additio...

Mrs. Ego saw this last night and corrected me. She was not happy. Apparently this is the second time she has corrected me, but somehow it did not register the first time. The crusts I purchased from my used food friend are for cheese cake, which she also makes. She actually bought the pie crust at G...

I find it refreshing that someone else approaches the holidays in a similar fashion. I regularly find items around November and December that are perfect as gifts or ingredients for dishes. It makes for an interesting story and unique way to approach the, typically stressful, holiday season. Hah. B...

I have never hidden my dislike of the jargonization of the forum, but I think it may be useful for all of us to reread this.... Actionable advice: To change the atmosphere or lens of the forum, there´s strength in numbers. Retreating or lurking only serve to propagate the current situation. Effectiv...

Re: Let's talk about how to avoid darknetting ERE

I want to push back on this as it seems like a bit of a false narrative running through this thread. I suppose I was also trying to convey that this was already explicitly addressed a few different times. Fair enough. If people are addressing it.... then they see it as a problem, not a false narrat...

Thank you for your interest. Due to the ongoing meta-discussion about MMGs and their contribution to a forum death spiral, I am not processing sign-ups at this time. In fact, I’m thinking about disbanding this MMG with the hope that its “discussion energy” returns to the main forum. Kudos to @fish ...
