Re: Anyone else FI now but still working for a bit longer?

Hmm, I am both FI and non-FI. :) As an individual I am FI with more than a 500K AUD stash, however as a couple we are not FI since my wife insists on having a ROI of 3K per month. Together we are close to 700K AUD, but other than money in investments we need around 100K for land and a house to build...

Re: How much do you need AND how long will it take

While I found the ERE path gratifying the first 2-3 years now in the 5th year I am quite anxious to reach FI. Cost has been optimised for a long time, income is solid, but ROI is not that good. Being risk averse in fear that potential loss would extend time to ERE I sticked to conservative investmen...

Re: SWR milestone record

2010 Few minor savings
2014 SWR 6% not adjusted for inflation, adjusted for inflation who knows, can`t trust the government official statistics, maybe 10% (btw this is Australia)
2016 Hopefully should be 3.6% again not adjusted for inflation

Maybe I catch up with the inflation in 2018.

<t>Just converted 1000sqft and have to say I am very surprised to see it s nearly 100 sqm. In my home country 100 sqm is considered luxury unless you live in a village. <t>Aussie, Ive never been in US. You can live in the country but can you find a job there, not that easy. A couple can buy the house under the condition that they keep paying it off for 30 years. <r>While I absolutely agree with the concept of guaranteed income which would cover all very basic necessities (<URL url="http://mondediplo.com/2013/05/04income">http://mondediplo.com/2013/05/04income</URL>), I do think you are idealising Australia. The basic healthcare doesn`t cover pretty much any...

<t>Ok, so its been a while and I think now I realise that over-focusing on reaching that ERE financial figure has left me a bit under pressure and demotivated. <t>Now this is an interesting question which is equally valid for people willing to retire in 20s and 30s. Since we want to minimise the time to ERE and maximise the funds that sustain us after ERE an argument can be built that we shouldn`t risk it.<br/> <br/> So 100% of the funds that provide SWR s...
