Re: DutchGirl's journal
Ah yeah, I'm sure when the goddess descents from the heavens to end all of our misery, she will loudly blast either Gregorian chants or Reign in blood by Slayer. Or maybe she will just play the sound of our automatic coffee grinder, because that is also a rather chilling sound. My grandfather, who w...

Re: ADHD meds
I'd avoid nicotine at all costs, due to its addictive quality, price, and increased risk of not only cancer but also cardiovascular disease. I wanted to add that some people with ADHD function well by using lisdexamphetamine on days when it's important to be able to work and/or study effectively, an...

Re: DutchGirl's journal
So, tonight I finished collecting the paperwork/evidence for our income taxes; now the accountant will create a concept of how he wants to file for us and then we can approve that concept (or have it changed). One can file the tax "paper"work on March 1st here, but it took me a few more we...

Re: Frugaldoc's journal
Yup. What I learned when I was looking for my current house is that there will be new properties on the market, and there will be ones that will be just as good or better than the one that has just passed you by. So who knows what will come on the market next! (And yes, good to be prepared for it!)....

Keep us posted on whether you extend this assignment or do something else. Are there perhaps yet other options for you, or could they maybe open up over the next months?

Personally it's state pension + work pension + individual retirement account + regular investments/savings + government benefits for the disabled + government retirement home + hospice.

Sounds lovely to be able to live in Spain for a while. I would also rent, at the very least for a year or so, before considering to buy.

Re: DutchGirl's journal
Maybe you can start a choir or singing group at the ship, frugaldoc? Maybe there's even someone around who has some official training in music to guide the group? We're a local women's choir (because too few men would join) that sings "easy" pop songs from say the 1970s onward. We generall...

Re: Quitting when investments=IR of 1 vs income robustness
If you quit when you have 25 times your expenses, you are very likely to never run out of money, due to a variety of reasons: 1. It is likely that a SWR of 4% turns out to be too safe for your specific date of quitting. 4% is still safe under very bad market conditions, most people will not retire a...

Re: DutchGirl's journal
Thanks! So far for this month I have tried one new recipe. In the supermarket one can buy boxes that contain all the ingredients for one specific meal. So I bought a "traybake" veggie meal and made it, and it was surprisingly good. Yeah! Now I want to try to replicate that by myself. Buy t...

Some people have Damocles' sword menacingly above their heads, you have Okinawa's knife tantalizingly in front of you to make you do well over the year. Speaking of carrots and sticks, you have already jumped on that rower by now, haven't you?

Re: Rouva's second journal
Hello Rouva, good to read another update from you. Ah, so in my country also some houses are on the government's or local government's land, and if so, the house owners need to pay an annual rent bill to the government. Sometimes for a big sum you can pay rent in one go for for example 10 or 30 year...

Re: Rouva's second journal
I'm glad to hear from you again, Rouva. It is however sad to read how you're doing. Totally understandable that this is how you're feeling, life has been really harsh, but sad. Indeed, this is not what you envisioned your FIRE stage to look like. I'm hoping for a small miracle, in time. I'm lighting...

Re: DutchGirl's journal
So I've just had a couple of pretty good weeks. My work schedule for the last weeks and hopefully the upcoming months will look like: work full days on Mondays and Wednesdays, check into the workplace on Tuesdays and Thursdays at around 4 PM for a few minutes to see whether my new colleague needs ad...

In our neighborhood a neighbor has put up a cupboard outside their house for giving things away. I don't know the neighbor, but the cupboard says: "give something or take something" and they made sections for "cleaning stuff", "food", "clothes", "children...

Yup, that's pretty good! Net worth with pension passed the 20k milestone, net worth without it will probably pass the 10k milestone, soon? Nice!

Nice! Can I ask, what times or moments do you like most about your current job and life situation? I was walking the other day (I often love going for walks by the way, I love the views although they're nothing special) and I thought about you and how your profession probably is rewarding or interes...
