Re: Rube's journal

A tough decision with work... Luckily you still have some time to make the decision, I think.

You've accomplished a lot in less than a decade; that's awesome!

Re: How many of you are low energy?

I think I need to, as someone suggested, try spreading my slacking off more evenly over the workweek. Yes, I think that's a great idea, too. Hopefully it will make you feel reasonably good every day - and will keep your bosses happy with your work as well. My mother is one of those people with an e...

Well, as for the golf: it turns out that luckily I'm not very talented. On the other hand, I didn't hurt anyone with ball or golf club, so that's good :-D I now have more respect for the professionals who not only manage to hit the ball, but also send it in the right direction at the right speed. I'...

You're a grad student: what are you studying? What are you hoping your career to be? I think some "safety" comes from having skills that allow you to be worthwhile to others who will then hire you do to jobs for them. Having a good education and then having some special skills because of t...

One other thing... With my boyfriend who also had sleep issues, we've done a "hard reset" for a week a couple of months ago, where we went to bed at 22 PM and got up at 7 AM, with no naps allowed during the day (I had to keep him awake a few times during the first two days or so) and no sc...

"My boss really likes me " If your boss is an idiot, ignore me. But if your boss is more or less a capable person at his level, then this says something good about you. In that case, flush that imposter syndrome down the toilet, take a deep breath and move on. There are many different styl...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

I ran a red light this morning... It was early, I was still a bit tired, I was mindlessly cruising along (at a perfect speed I might add) behind a truck; and saw too late that the light was orange, and then it was red when I crossed. And it was at a crossing where my infraction was noted by a camera...

Re: Great job but... A Danish FI journal

Can't you get your work pension earlier than the state pension? In the UK, work pensions can be withdrawn at age 55 (57 in a few years). In some cases yes, slightly sooner. In that case this would become a three-stage-plan: 1. before any retirement plans pay out 2. after you can tap into the work p...

Re: The Coliving concept and ERE

To me it does sound nice, but after living in student housing I know that a lot, indeed, does depend on which people you end up with. If they don't match (and for example throw your plastic washing basket at the wall because they're mad at you - Debby - and then deny destroying it too)... if they do...

Re: Great job but... A Danish FI journal

Hi :-) Are you also saving in some type of pension plan? Is there a government pension (and do you think it will be around when you are of retirement age)? I live in the Netherlands, there's both a state pension plan and most people are obligated to invest in a work pension plan; this is true for me...

I hope you're still meditating, M2aS, because you're going to need it, at least for the next seven months or so.

That's sarcasm, right, sky? It's hard to distinguish sometimes when you are reading :D Boy oh boy, so I'm looking forward to working less hours starting in January, but I also find it a bit scary, even though I will still be able to make ends meet from just my income, so that my investments can just...

My teamleader, unhappy with me wanting to work less hours, during our phone call on this topic: "I will have to find out whether you can just one-sidedly say that you want to reduce your hours like that." Me, thinking: well, if you somehow find out that my employer can force me to work mor...

Update... I walked for an hour this morning and thought it true (while, by the way, listening to a podcast of the MadFientist interviewing "our" Jacob). I then went home and looked at my spreadsheet and adjusted some numbers - as you do before you make big changes. And then I sent an email...

Just look how far you've come in the last 10 years! You had a mere 13k in your pot back then. Yeah, it's pretty awesome. This shit works, folks...! (And if you earn more than I do, it could work even faster). Basically, given what you've written over the years and also just now, you may also 'suffe...

And then again, as a trained health professional you KNOW that you are actually selling snake oil and quackery.

So sell your soul if you want to.

Re: DutchGirl's journal

I probably ought to practice with someone else but I've always been shy at doing that and I'm self conscious about speaking the language aloud. My priority has been to learn to read Dutch and to understand other people speaking Dutch, rather than speaking Dutch myself. I want to be able to speak to...
