Hi Rube,
Nice to hear from you.
Please keep posting once in a while, it's interesting to see how you handle ERE after the accumulation phase.

A competitive advantage can be that you learned in your job about needs of larger customers, see example the indiehackers podcast #16 with the sidekick.org founder. Generally insight...

Re: mathiverse's journal
Becoming an Entrepreneur by Desyllas is a good starting point, especially p. 13/14: build workflows. I think in order to have a lifestyle business, you need: - to like what you are working on - have some kind of competitive advantage - have an existing market where customers find it normal to pay Wh...

Hi @iluv2fly1,
Going from Arnhem to Wageningen is simple by direct bus. At Arnhem Central train station are several buses going to Wageningen.
We'll share the address in an email soon.

Thanks @rube.
I'll try to come, depending on when I'm in NL or on holiday.
Looking forward to see all of you again.

Re: Portfolio Charts
Hi Tyler9000,
Have you thought about an approach like https://www.livemint.com/market/stock-m ... 73624.html , i.e. changing allocations / leverage as you age? It sounds lie it makes sense, but I'm not sure if it actually does.

Here's a reading suggestion: A guide to the good life, by W. Irvine. It touches on death, and also on having children and giving attention to them.

Re: Your Personal Operating System
A great read in the trend of a Personal Operating System is "Algorithms to live by" by B. Christian and T. Griffiths.
The book helped me to clarify some ERE concepts and also is an entertaining read. If you are academically inclined, is has a very good reference section.

One thing to prepare is: be ready to move, and move fast. I.e. leave your house within 2 days with enough things to travel and be ok for months or years in a new place.

Hi Rube,
Are you willing to share where you plan to travel?
Last winter I went hiking in Patagonia for two months with my son. I can really recommend the area if you love mountains, wind, and remote hiking.

Re: Tools for thinking about things
My two favourites are:
Mindware by R.E. Nisbett
"Algorithms to live by" by B. Christian and T. Griffiths
Mindware is more about "how to think", and Algorithms is more about "how to solve changing, not specified, messy real world problems as good as possible".

Re: Portfolio Charts
@Tyler9000 Thank you, your explanation helps a lot. And JustETF looks quite interesting. What I still do not understand 100% is how Vanguard funds domiciled in Ireland vs. the US work regarding their tax obligations. I did read https://en.swissquote.lu/international-investing/smart-investing/avoid-u...

Re: Portfolio Charts
On the topic of Vanguard and ISIN codes: I find it quite hard to translate (in my mind) the Vanguard ticker names / ISIN into what the fund actually is. For example are these actually the same? VEUR.AS for the amasterdam one VEUR.L for London Or are there differences when buying one vs the other. An...

On the lighter side I can recommend "Alex's Adventures in Numberland". It focuses on a few math problems, and does it in a quite entertaining way.

Germany started opening up on 4/20 (one of the first EU countries to do so) and have subsequently seen R0 increase from 0.7 to 0.96. Here comes the dance. It seems R0 in Germany decreased (30.4: 0.76, see https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/N/Neuartiges_Coronavirus/Situationsberichte/2020-04-30-de....

Re: Rube's journal
Hi Rube, regarding renting, I don't think Covid-19 will have long term effects on the housing market in general, because there is so much latent demand in NL. However I do think there will be much influence in the short to medium term. And I don't think everything will be back to normal in September...
