10 years of experience for me. 8th grade through college. I played offensive and defensive line in high school and defensive line in college. I also coached a little. I do hope they find that CTE isn't guaranteed or all the result of football, as I love the sport. I have played almost everything el...

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

So, when did you first year of these guys? And do you approve of them, or just oppose the same folks, and assume that the enemy of your enemy is your friend? Embarrassingly, I am late to hearing about these guys. I'm not even 100% sure of antifa's platform. Admittedly, I hadn't paid much attention ...

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

Sorry, I clicked your link, then more links, got a sense of what the response was, and failed to separate my thoughts of their response from my thoughts of your response. You were not yapping, but the left in general was. In 2020, I can't imagine the Republican party giving us a choice that doesn't...

The "good" man Trump pardoned: https://twitter.com/phoenixnewtimes/sta ... 4087334914 Eh. The Phoenix news times is only in business because of joe. Their business model for 25 years has been to decry everything he does in tabloid detail with tabloid accuracy. My comment wasn't that the P...

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

Actions like the pardon, transgender ban, speeches supporting racists, etc. are going to make it impossible for democrats and for many republicans to work with him on actual important issues like passing a budget. Then his idiot supporters will complain the fault lies with these reps and senators wh...

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

I haven't been able to confirm this with a second source yet (was watching the Liverpool game) but I'm told a transition team has been formed in what republicans are still saying is the unlikely event that Trump steps down. The (rumored) leading candidate for VP is Nikki Haley. Part of the process ...

Re: Free Speech

Initially, the First Amendment - Freedom of Speech - applied only to the Federal Government. In 1925 the First Amendment was extended to the States in Gitlow v. New York. I believe an argument could be made that the First Amendment should be extended still further to private companies with a near m...

Re: Free Speech

Even in 1980, what would you do if you wanted to get your message out to a large audience? You'd do what all firms wanting to advertise did: pay a bulk mail outfit to send a flyer to all the people on their mailing list. If your message were more "bent", then you'd try to get space in alt...

Re: Does one owe it to their parents to take care of them in old age?

That is rough Sclass. I know how hard it was taking care of my mom for the roughly two years she fought brain cancer, and my entire family (4) was helping. It sounds like not EREing her current care is the right choice for you. You can't let all of the bad stuff take away your life too. Good luck man.

Re: Free Speech

There are lots of things that bother me about the current push to limit speech in the US. What bothers me most is how tech companies seem to be operating outside of the court system in determining what defines hate speech (now being redefined as 'hate incidents'). Yes, it's concerning. When we comp...

Re: Choo choo - all aboard the Trump Train

I would note that the reason why many members of the aspirational class were shocked by the results of this election is because this is behavior that they also exhibit. Not much stranger-danger risk when you hop from Ann Arbor to Austin to Berkeley to Amherst. Otherwise, they would have had some so...

Re: Choo choo - all aboard the Trump Train

Xenophobia vs Xenophilia: Those who fear or distrust people different from themselves versus those who express affection for people who are different. Xenophobes exclude themselves from differences while xenophiliacs move toward them. I agree. Though, this seems to be a subsection to the larger rea...

Are you advocating...soft power? Letting culture, inertia, etc. do the work? Hmmmm...who is always telling me it's not all it's cracked up to be? Lol

I don't entirely disagree.

Re: White supremacy run amok

@C40 The other part, which I implied, but didn't say directly is the massive amount of change going on. It's similar to when all the buggy, buggy whip, etc. manufacturers fought the use of cars. In principle, the same thing is happening now and is as inevitable now as then. Unfortunately, now the va...

Re: White supremacy run amok

I'm curious about how much this is happening compared to the recent past. Is there really an increase? Am I just hearing about it more now? This would probably be worth a whole other thread (if there isn't already one(?)) It's a good question. Since, 1950 the civilian labor force participation for ...
