White belt, Sometimes after a significant wheel truing the spokes need to be seated. I get a more stable wheel when I stress relieve the spokes by twisting the spokes around each other using an old left crank arm. This is the Sheldon brown technique under stress relief. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/...

dycknald_don Have you seen information showing high levels of transmission in the Gym? If so, I would like to see that. Everything I have been looking at shows that gyms are some of the lowest places for transmission given the rarity of asymptomatic transmission. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70...

Re: Health Share vs ACA

@Peanut and @Scott. Thanks for the discussion. I agree. @Peanut, That is right that a Health Share is not insurance and isn't held to the same accountability. You get a card that looks like an insurance card has company info and policy number. The card also has a line that says, "This is not in...

Re: Health Share vs ACA

This is a great topic and one important for the retirement community. I don't have specific advice to your position, because I feel mine is different and I don't know if you are hitting your deductible/"health share" When going into this some key decisions: single/family, subsidy/unsubsidi...

Re: Precision filing thin brass tubing

I would consider clamping a the largest drill bit that slides inside tube in the vice as a buck. Tube would rest on top of vice. Perhaps with a hole in a wood block to prevent drill bit rotation. A drop of hot glue, tape, paper could make tight fit Drill bit height could be measured off vice and be ...

Adding to the construction side: Building your personal residence then sell 2 years later for 100% tax-free gains. Repeat. My dentist had a patient that did this. Dentist asked, "How long will you do this?" Patient, "Till I find a better way to make tax-free income." This could b...

That sounds like a good visit to Wichita and a great way to test the market. I would probably do the same with Topeka. With the wind on the bike, We climb mtns of wind and then enjoy the tailwind home. I like Topeka. Good mtb, road and gravel options. Pro bike racer, Steve Tilford lived there and bu...

Lots of interesting thoughts. I agree, Katy trail is totally awesome and a great resource. The Rock Island spur just connected Katy trail to KC. Kansas is doing some rail to trails with Prairie Spirit Trail and Flint Hills trail. Riding the Katy trail shows how a rail trail develops. Now, the Katy i...

Re: What type of bike to get? How much should I spend?

Connect with the local bike club. Go to a ride meet local people. See their bikes and ask what they started riding. See if you there is a bike co-op in your area. These groups collect bikes, fix them then sell or donate to community. This is a great place to test and understand different bikes. A po...

Another vote for Google Voice. My main number that I give out is there. Anyplace with wifi will act like you have your USA number. I like texting at a computer keyboard more than my phone. It is an awesome no monthly cost option. There could be a one time $20 porting fee. The catches are Google is g...

Re: Exercise/Fitness Log

JennyPenny, I would confirm bike fit and try a couple saddles. Saddles have come a long way since the 80's when your bike was produced. We now have gender specific options. If you can connect with local female riders, you can get expert saddle opinions. Bell Helmets and Trek Bikes are sponsoring loc...

Re: Concierge or Cash Only Medicine

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is frequently used as a low cost version of concierge treatment. These are family doctors that don't take insurance to minimize overhead, will help with small issues and help navigate paying cash on the big issues. Subscription is similar to a gym membership and costs $50-1...

Re: m741's ERE Journal

m741, it looks like you have a great club in the Seattle area. In the midwest, we run events in the forest in the winter when vegetation and insects are reduced. Then in the summer, we have events in urban, mowed parks. I don't know what the Seattle orienteering season's are. You do have good events...

Re: Please help me to choose a bike

All this advice is good. If it seems like too many details, I would connect with local cyclists. It is easier to give advice when someone is shopping for a bike, than after that person bought a less than ideal bike. See if there is a beginner ride or a woman's ride. Show up, see bikes, ask questions...
