Yes he is at university college London. My aunt used to teach there and was keen to introduce us. Jeremy is kept in a cupboard in the main entrance hall and put to bed each night. Now I think about its really rather odd.

Re: I Was Once Found But Now I Am Lost
Did you sell it for a premium or a discount? There's a taxidermist who lives near me. The FAQs on her website include such questions as 'Can you taxidermy my grandmother'. It's intriguing that that is a frequently asked question. I'm not sure what you would do with a taxidermied grandmother, unless ...

Its a frightening thought as to where all this supersizing will end up. But Oldfucksville does look rather beautiful. Also looks like a great place for a taxidermy business.

Too much competition, maybe? Maybe, though I heard an Islamic preacher once saying that if things are haram then it's for your own good and I felt he did have a point. But its interesting how gambling and smoking are taboo amongst the middle classes but alcohol isn't. @Henry - apropos your large co...

I've been having the same thoughts following mine quitting of alcohol. Not drinking, smoking, gambling, drug taking or taking debt is likely to give you a higher ROI than anything else. Most religions have sought to ban these vices.

Re: I Was Once Found But Now I Am Lost
I just experienced a magnitude 2.9 earthquake while writing this. Oldfucksland has not turned out as I anticipated. I was looking at a map of the earthquake and I had no idea that oldfucksland is so close to New York city. In fact I didn't even realise New Jersey abuts it. Perhaps this is the sourc...

i'm looking for a car to go hunting. There are no 500.- cars anymore. It might end up cheaper to call a choppa a few time in september than to own a car. Au contraire monsieur... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404128570891?sort=relevance&twcs=true&advertising-location=at_cars&a...

@Biscuits - You might like 'All for Nothing' by Walter Kempowski, about a wealthy Prussian family in 1945 who seal themselves away as the red army inch ever closer to their remote estate. One of the best books I have ever read.

Re: I Was Once Found But Now I Am Lost
I think there is a transition from starting pitcher to relief pitcher. To use evolutionary terms, it would be what Stephen Jay Gould called punctuated equilibrium. Things evolve slowly, things appearing like they are in stasis and then, blammo, a marked change. You spend most of your life starting ...

An air-cooled Beetle. Edit: To expand on this, VW spare parts are ubiquitous worldwide, the Beetle is probably the most iconic car ever made (despite literally been designed by Hitler) and likely has a large network of enthusiasts and owners forums. You can probably find you tube videos which explai...

I am anti-Lancaster. I grew up in the neighboring county. The irony of all of my favorite people collectively moving to my least favorite place. I endorse your anti-Lancaster sentiments. I knew a girl from Lancaster, lovely girl who was married to a local boy from a young age. Unfortunately he was ...

I finished binge watching Ripley last night and I have to say I was very impressed with it. It faithfully follows the book it all the important ways, with a lot of clever details for Highsmith fans and convincingly recreates post-war Italy. Shooting it all in black and white was a bit of a gamble bu...

Re: Favorite Classic Books
The talented Mr Ripley. My favourite book of all time. The film is good but the book is *much* better. Netflix have made a series based on the book called Ripley. Shot in black and white and looks promising so far. Just hope they don't soften it up like Anthony Minghella did in 1999. I want pre-med...

My main task for 8 mos of the year now that I'm retired is looking after my dad. He's 84, for far into the time period you're talking about. Has he given you power of attorney ? If not I recommend he does asap, it makes things much easier for next of kin. Trying to get it after a person is incapaci...

@Dutchgirl - yes indeed, and also most people don't end up needing residential care, and whilst its common enough we should plan for the possibility its by no means inevitable.

So its been three months dry and coincidentally its been the worse period of my life, but I think it would have been a lot worse if I had been drinking. It was almost as if the random decision to quit was me being prepared for it. I'm no longer regularly drinking the 0% beer as the desire to have a ...
