Re: Insulin Resistance

This is very interesting stuff. The idea of switching between diets based on seasonal variations is intriguing, especially as (for me at least) going full on paleo/low carb can be difficult long term. But it's a good way to loose weight for a shorter period if needed. Re fasting it would be interest...

The talented Mr Ripley. My favourite book of all time. The film is good but the book is *much* better.

Re: Insulin Resistance

I will say from experience that after a week or so to adjust to a low carb regimen it gets increasingly easy for me to pinch my feeding window down to 2 hours or so. I see. I could probably do a 14-16 hour non eating period every day. Have you used apple cider vinegar Dave ? Apparently it can help ...

Re: Insulin Resistance

This video hits most of the high points and ties in the whole "metabolic syndrome" family of maladies of which IR is part. The guy can be a little tedious to listen to, but I've found him to be pretty reliable. And if IR is something you are concerned about it's probably worth the half ho...

Re: Insulin Resistance

Thanks @Jacob thats interesting. So an insulin spike could be triggered psychosomatically ? If I start to salivate over a load of doughnuts and cream but don't actually eat anything, I'm still risking a drop in blood sugar due to the excess insulin ? Yeah type 1 diabetes was once a death sentence. C...

I very rarely sleep through and often am awake half the night. I get a lot of Vitamin D , as I suppleme...

Re: Silicon Valley Bank fails

It's not really surprising. After 2008 there was a desperate push by the financial service industry to resist tighter regulation to stop them doing stupid things.

Re: Insulin Resistance

Thanks, I'll consider that.

However, is my understanding correct that insulin resistance can cause low blood sugar for the reason I suggested ?

Have you visited a doctor and had some tests?
I had a blood test for diabetes a few years ago but it was negative. I was also tested for iron levels as well and they were normal.

Insulin Resistance

I have long suspected I have insulin resistance, however I am struggling to understand it. From what I have read, insulin resistance is when your body’s cells don’t respond properly to the insulin that your body makes. Because your body cannot use the insulin as it should your blood sugar levels can...

Re: Silicon Valley Bank fails

@jacob - I'm guessing it's due in part to the cache which Silicon Valley (of the IT crowd) has and the fact its going through a period of contraction, and along comes a defaulting bank which unfortunately is actually called Silicon Valley, further harming the brand value. As an aside, there must be ...

Re: Silicon Valley Bank fails

This is why Adam Smith warned against limited liability. If the director's own mansions and yachts were on the line as collateral they might have been a lot more cautious as to how they run things.

It’s funny that the clown VCs that pulled out the money causing the bank to go down are now asking for a bailout.
Capitalism in 2023
Just like 2008. Mortgage holders get screwed, bankers get bailed out and receive lavish bonuses paid for by the taxpayer.

Re: Consumer Staples just got a moat

I believe the Dune trilogy was based on this premises. Although I have never made it past the first few chapters as it feels like it was written by some nascent AI bot. The author refused to use conjunctions, and the writing just doesn't flow like normal prose.

Re: Dedicated Etiquette Thread

Singapore once launched a '4 million smiles' campaign to encourage its citizens to be more friendly towards foreign visitors. One Singaporean attempted to raise some real smiles by launching a parody '4 million frowns' campaign. He was swiftly arrested.
