Belfast in Maine was a very nice little town I once spent some time in. Very walkable and had all amenities you would ever need. Camden was quite nice as well iirc.

Re: Navigating Housing Options and making "big decisions"

Is seems like you know about Italy. What do you mean? Also, what is a safe bet salary to start thinking about a house, for Italy? I don't know much about Italy but there is a vlogger I follow who bought a farmhouse in the mountains for < 50 000k iirc, somewhere in the north east I think. https://yo...

Haven't you asked this question previously ? viewtopic.php?p=273935#p273935

Either way I don't think your income is high enough or you deposit is high enough for any of these options. But there is much cheaper property available in Italy.

Thank you @Ego. This documentary on Easter Island looks very good. I've not watched it yet but others he has made are excellent.

Somewhat related. Years ago we spent some time on Rapa Nui,
I would be very interested in hearing more about this trip Ego, and anywhere else in Polynesia you may have been.

Re: ERE City (US)

There's a big neo-pagan scene in Eugene. Some say the area is spiritually charged. Sarah Kate Istra Winter lives there. Which to me would be a bonus.

Re: Buying a home without a job after retirement

Vendors just want cash, the won't care about your income. You might need to provide proof of financing i.e. confirm you have x amount of cash in your bank account before they accept an offer.

Re: ERE and Legal, Financial Liability

Pensions provide good income protection. They are usually a protected asset in the event of bankruptcy, you are tightly restricted in terms of how much capital you can withdraw and are insured by the government up to a certain amount. In the event of becoming a senile spendthrift in old age you stil...

Re: JollyScot's Journey Starts

@dara - Barcelona is one of Spain's most expensive cities, and Manchester one of the UK's cheapest, so I would expect the COL difference to be much larger in many cases, depending on the comparables. I'm assuming the 'European ISA' was referring to was this: https://www.finance-spain.com/SpanishComp...

Re: JollyScot's Journey Starts

@dara - Remember wages are much lower in Spain than the UK, as is the COL. There is something called a European ISA. According to this source, the tax comparison does not look particularly onorous.

If the standard cultural package works for them, we already have cities, WTF would they move out to the woods? My point exactly. What would your proposed campsite offer which can't already be found or created more easily in existing infrastructure, where the embodied energy can be preserved ? How w...

@Riggerjack - I am not sure what you mean tbh. What do you mean by placing brackets around buildings ? Climate change, and other factors, is leading to shifts in migration and settlement patterns. Some urban areas will likely be abandoned, others will grow. This is not a new phenomena, but is unprec...
