Sesame Street

When I was a kid all the hipster parents plonked their munchkins in front of the television to watch Sesame Street. My mother sang songs from the show until we were adults.

For the last few days I had the opportunity to plonk a munchkin down and watch Sesame Street. I was amazed how perfect the messages go along with the ERE mindset.

I nearly fell over when I saw this one. It should be the ERE theme song.

When I was a kid the word of the day was something simple like elephant or the color blue. The word of the day for the show I watched was strategy. Strategy!

Enjoy!

Funny. The debut of Sesame Street coincided almost exactly with the debut of Gen X. Sometimes I describe my politics as Sesame Street Socialist.

Word of the Day: Zugzwang

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zugzwang
Zugzwang (German for "compulsion to move", pronounced [ˈtsuːktsvaŋ]) is a situation found in chess and other turn-based games wherein one player is put at a disadvantage because of their obligation to make a move; a player is said to be "in zugzwang" when any legal move will worsen their position.

The word comes from German Zug 'move' + Zwang 'compulsion'

I was a huge Sesame Street fan as a child. The natural diversity, the educational messaging, and the fact that it was public programming... I never had cable as a child and I think most public programming was better than the addictive ad-fueled nature of ad-funded children's programming. I remember I watched it every day after Kindergarten.
