Mrs. Ego got a great deal on a Surly Troll so it looks like bikepacking is in our future. In my mind this would be the ultimate trip.

Nice. I can't really think of any place in Africa I want to go. I like the idea of places like Patagonia, Mongolia (silk road?), and of course parts of our own Great Divide Mountain Bike route. Or the Coast to Coast off-road bike the dual sport motorcycle guys take. My bike is a Salsa Fargo.Ego wrote:Mrs. Ego got a great deal on a Surly Troll so it looks like bikepacking is in our future. Ohhhh.... that's one of the bikes I've got on my craigslist saved-search list. But I'd need one with 26" wheels as were going where 29ers have not yet taken off.enigmaT120 wrote: My bike is a Salsa Fargo.
I've got some great mountain biking trails at the end of my street that the Bike Friday (as much as I love it) just doesn't cut the mustard. Fortunately the Friday's have increased in value since we purchased them so we will probably end up with fully set up bikepacking bikes plus some spending cash from the proceeds.

That was neat. I got sucked into watching a bunch of his videos (Ben Falk), now I'm gonna go to the library to get his book. I liked his stuff about rice farming up in Vermont, I thought rice was a warm weather crop, but it doesn't seem so at all.7Wannabe5 wrote:The adventure of climbing up the Wheaton scale:

@Kriegsspiel:
What I liked about that video was his explanation of how his practice informed his perspective which informed his practice ...
I think that is indicative of the "tinkering" mode of approaching any sort of complex practice such as permaculture or frugality or Renaissance lifestyle creation. OTOH, Falk's practice is a little too much in the mode of "5 Acres and Independence" for my liking. Anybody should be able to live permaculture right now from right where they are. You don't have to save up money and buy X acres first. I have to keep reminding myself of this because I live about a mile away from the lots that I own, so my Zones 0 and 1 are rented.

I loved the picture through the tent door in Kyrgistan. But I realized I could get similar pictures in NE Oregon.... Certainly in Wyoming.

Re: Life is a Daring Adventure | The Inspiration Thread
lol- Funny because mostly true. Sometimes men have good ideas for adventures themselves, and they will frequently happily take you with them if you are okay with cuddling in the back of a jeep and you don't wander off too frequently and you don't usually cry when people yell at you, BUT they hardly ever even listen to your very, very, very good ideas for adventure, and if you let them come with you on one of your adventures, they either just complain and complain or they totally try to take over YOUR adventure and ruin it. AND if you try to go off on an adventure on your own or with your sisters, they will call you on the phone all the time because they want you to come home and cook them some dinner, and then if you don't come home from your adventure in time to make dinner, they will pretend like they didn't notice the crock pot wasn't working and try to feed your children raw chicken.

Yeah, that's obviously how I read it too. Funnier that way.
