My SO and I just discovered the Texas state surplus store, owned by the Texas Facilities commission. They sell old cop cars, state vehicles, office, and office equipment but also lots of great stuff confiscated at the airport. Ours has a TUBS of pocket knifes, TUBS of multitools sorted by brands, shelves of tools and anything else you can't carry onto an airplane (including a million snow globes). You could deliberate on the best, most sturdy brand of pocket knife, or you can go to the surplus store and buy a one quart freezer bag of pocket knives for $10. The boyfriend and I both got Leatherman micras for $3. Evidently, they have these in multiple cities in TX and presumably other states as well. It might be fun to see if there's one in your state.
