There is quite a lot of not very subtle pressure on people to work longer hours than they are paid for. I like my daughter's response to a demanding boss.
"There are only so many hours in my working day, what is your top priority?"
"All of them"
"There are only so many hours in my working day, what is your top priority? If you don't want to tell me, then I'll make my own judgement."
To my way of thinking expecting people to work more hours than they are paid for is stealing, just as if the employee turns up late or leaves early is stealing from their employer if they don't make it up at another time.
