The NYC meetup just ended and I am inspired to be even more frugal and to start a journal. Everyone who we met tonight was lovely and it felt good to talk to people who are following a similar path.
Our situation is a bit unusual because we have pretty low paying jobs and we live in an expensive city. My husband works as a violinist in a string quartet and I work as a cellist, gigging and teaching 2.5 days a week. So, I am not working a lot and am spending most of my time with my 12 month old son. Chris works quite a bit, but still has more free time than the average 9-5. Still, we want to become financially independent.
Have more skills.
Have more time.
Our combined income is around $5000/month. Chris's income will increase over the next few years.
We have been saving about 40% of our income. I would like to save more. I can trim our spending a little, but the only way to get that number to 50% would be to rent a cheaper place to live and I'm not sure that we can. We have thought about buying, but don't want such a big commitment.
So, I am going to keep track of things here.
