Starts with a hat tip to the BS jobs blog post shared in another forum thread.
Interesting take on the principal-agent problem, what motivates people at non-profit work and jobs. New idea I learnt was separating Hygeine and Incentives.

Thanks for sharing. My job is meh, but it pays for exploring my hobbies and side-hustles. The combination of the two makes me fulfilled.

I can use the model to describe my experience in all of my careers. At the end of each of them, enough motivational factors were gone to drop below the meh line. Specifically, personal growth had plateaued and the work was no longer stimulating. No amount of hygiene could have made up for it. I remember thinking as i was ready to leave that not even doubling my salary could make me want to stay. I guess the model has to be combined with hedonic adaptation to explain my experience. Once I've experienced Yah! at a job, it's hard for me to settle for meh.
