Search? What search terms?

PF blog reference/blogroll? If you remember, also include name of the site.

Found MMM first, then heard of this site, read the book, and found the overall ERE philosophy more to my liking. Admittedly, I'm an INTJ.

Found it through incoming traffic links to my own site. Name intrigued me so I took the bait and here I am. Been reading stuff on and off all day.

I first heard about FI on a podcast. That lead me to the FI subreddit, which then took me here

I literally googled "extreme retirement", because I wanted to retire early!

I was on a field training exercise (a Krieg Spiel), and I was reflecting on how well one could live just on the contents of one's backpack. So, since I was a TOCroach at the time, I googled minimalist. One of the sites I came across was the "so long and thanks for all the fish" transfer to MMM. So then I started reading both of them and it blew my goddamn mind.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it was a reference by a blogger or someone who commented on a PF blog a long time ago. I enjoyed Jacob's analyticcal bent, even if he is more analytical than I am.

I googled "secret danish conspiracy to undermine capitalism" and it popped up as #1.

Well... the Amazon 'suggestions' did it for me. I was looking for books written by Tom Hodgkinson - the king of idleness - and just like that Jacob's book popped up in the suggestions list. From there, it was the logical search and find through reference lists and the web. So actually I was aiming to become a professional idler and now I'm working as hell to become FI :p ... strange paradigm shift...

it was mentioned by someone on MMM and I started reading some of Jacob's posts and realized a lot of it was way over my head. So I got his book and started "getting" it.

There was a "cheap living" thread over at Mark's Daily Apple back when I first started eating Primal/Paleo, and after reading "Possum Living" (because it was the only one the library had in stock) someone suggested Jacob's Book. I actually devoured the site/forums here before getting the book, but I did eventually buy the book so I could lend it out to people who aren't inclined to binge read online content.

Just a duckduckgo.com search for "early retirement" and ERE was the third or fourth result but by far the most eye catching because it says extreme.

This is an old topic but I like the question. Responding is also my way of thanking the person if they are around...

I was working as a teacher in Asia circa 2014 and was on an internet forum for local expat teachers. Someone fleetingly mentioned they planned to retire in x amount of years due to extreme frugality or something like that and posted a link to the website without further comment. I think I may have clicked on it and then fled (too many Wheaton levels removed). 6 months later I was back in the home country and at a loose end and something pulled me back in. I chased the white rabbit right to the bottom of the hole.

If you are ever a reader of this forum, I thank you tremendously!

Time warp... it was probably a decade ago when jacob posted on The Simple Dollar and it was quickly becoming obvious that Trent wasn't going beyond soap recipes.

[edit: OMG, I just popped into thesimpledollar.com and now it's a tout for loans and credit cards! My, how low can you sink?]
