Europeans - your highest interest rate bank accounts

Post by fips »

As some of my current bank account offers phase out, I am looking for new options to invest my money (or should I say let inflation eat my assets).

As we are in a low(est) interest rate environment and people have been saying things will change for years, I could wait for interest rates to eventually go back up. But now Bernanke has proven yet again that he has different plans on what is right for the economy (and it's a similar story in most Western countries).

Also, if I am in it for the long term and looking for total return, I could choose the PP. However, for this part of my money I prefer something more constant and allegedly safer, like fixed deposits.

What I am looking for is this:
- invest about EUR 10.000 (could be more or less)
- time horizon: about 5 years
- preferably protected by deposit insurance

The best offer I could find is by 2.6% p.a. by Big Bank:

Where do you currently invest the "safe part" of your money?

I do not use this bank myself, but it's the highest I could find quickly: 3.1 % for 5 years.

https://www.topprente.no/Default.Aspx has an account with a floating interest rate of 3.515 %. (The Norwegian central bank has signalled an interest rate increase in the summer of 2014.) 2 million NOK deposit insurance.
