"Smart" home-gym: worth it?
Hi there!
Are "smart" home gym worth it over traditional ones?
Examples of smart home gym:
1) https://www.speediance.com/products/speediance-gym-pal (no subscription)
2) https://www.speediance.com/products/speediance-home-gym (no subscription)
3) https://vitruvianform.com/products/trai ... 4406630493 (subscription)
Examples of traditional home gym:
1) https://www.lacertosus.com/1361-foldabl ... e-set.html (no subscription)
2) https://kingsbox.com/it/product/royal-closet-gym/ (no subscription)
3) https://www.amazon.it/dp/B096MWSYSN (no subscription)
How could we evaluate which is worth and why?
Factors:
- Durable in time
- Aestetichs
- Encumbrance/size
- Better for workout purpose and human movements
- Workout planning help
- Workout tracking help
- Final Price (long term investiment)

No. It's not worth it. Prefer a completely mechanical home gym so that you don't have to rely on electricity or software to keep running and getting updates to use your gym. The mechanical systems are also less likely to break in general. If you need electronic workout programming, buy it separately via a website/app or get a book that has workouts that use your equipment.
Another downside of the listed smart machines are that the weight maxes out at 220 lbs which is too low to provide a lifetime of challenges for all body parts for a trained male who is interested in lifting weights to get strong. In contrast, for some of the non-electronic systems, you can add weight by getting more weights to add to the barbell (maybe eventually getting a new barbell with a higher weight limit).
Now, that's my answer given the options you set forth. However, I think you may be able to find better options for getting a workout than getting any of those home gyms.

You didn't really state what your goals are, so it's hard to say whether it's worth it. At those prices, it wouldn't be worth it to me. Of course I'm saying that after spending a good fraction of those costs ($700 iirc) on a Concept 2 rower a number of years back.
Like everything else, AI seems to be creeping into fitness. The two cases I can think of where the cost might be worth it for a person are:
-You are a professional/high-level competition athlete who wants to get that last 5% you can wring out of your body.
-You are severely limited in the amount of time you can devote to fitness and want (and can afford) to maximize the limited time available.
Both those situations presume the technology can actually provide those benefits. Ideally you'd want something that monitors you and your progress and adapts to you accordingly. Something that feeds you canned workouts could be nice for convenience, but won't have unique efficacy.

If you're willing to contend with buying and selling used equipment, you can try almost any home gym idea for minimal total cost of ownership. At one point, I had a top end precor elliptical in my basement.
If I was really curious about the smart home gym, I'd watch for an eager used seller and try it out. Because gym equipment is heavy, used markets tend to be local. With patience, you can get a deal.
I doubt you'll find anyone here with experience using smart home gyms. They carry quite the price premium. Personally, I spent my home gym money on basic equipment and high quality in-person instruction.

Is this a bot account or just a really low effort poster?

ESL?
@lillo9546 - I don't think you're going to find people here with experience using devices like in the video. They are a luxury product.

What would you do in case this thing could provide space saving/minimalism opportunities vs a traditional gym?mathiverse wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 8:26 amNo. It's not worth it.
