Using the forum markups

I'm not so tech savvy when it comes to this kind of stuff but how do you use the forum markups to insert images, quote someone, etc? I have tried putting things in between [ ] like in other forums. Then I saw the backtick note, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

Yes I'm not sure what that "backtick" refers to. I had to view the page source code to figure it out.

The backtick character is usually found somewhere between 1, tab, ESC on a US-keyboard. Other national keyboards may have it elsewhere.
To print html code verbatim, simply write
'Here is my HTML code'
where the ' (fronttick) is replaced by backtick `.
