As an experimental first (of sorts), three traditional Stanford classes, namely,
https://www.ai-class.com/ -- An introduction to AI,
http://www.db-class.org/course/auth/welcome -- an introduction to databases, and,
http://www.ml-class.org/course/auth/welcome -- an introduction to machine learning
have been offered online for free to anyone in the world. Those who successfully pass the class will earn a statement of accomplishment, autographed by the professors handling the respective courses. Most videos are short, spare (in a Khan Academy format on pen and paper) and the professors say this is a glimpse of other activities in the pipeline. Watch this space.

FREE: Online Stanford courses with certificates
To give you an idea on "value", my employer paid $4500 to Stanford Center for Professional Development for me to take that exact DB course offered by Jennifer Widom about a year ago. It was a good course, but only if you actually need an intro to databases.
And it took 3 more classes and 12000 more dollars to get a certificate to put on my desk!
