Your greatest feats of strength

Post by Scott 2 »

I'll start...

Snatched a 36k kettlebell
Push pressed a 36k kettlebell
Overhead pressed 140lbs
Cleaned 155lbs
Front squatted 198lbs
Back squatted 260lbs
Deadlifted 315lbs
Bent a 60 penny nail

Is anyone mightier?!?!

Probably my greatest so far were these. I never got into maxing so I'm just listing my working sets:

Pullups: 5-7 of them with 70lbs added using a hip belt. (at 150-160lbs bodyweight).. I could do about 25 unweighted if I did them pretty quickly. I didn't get all the way to doing a 1 arm pullup though
Overhead press with Dumbells: 120lbs or 130lbs (total) for ~8 reps. (at about 165lbs bodyweight)
Pinch grip: lifting two standard 45lb plates together (flat sides out) with one hand, and holding up for ~15 seconds (at about 140lbs bodyweight)
Deadlift: 285lbs or maybe a bit more, 5-8 reps. At about 175lbs bodyweight

Not strength, but, on a bicycle, at 136lbs bodyweight, in a 5 minute test I averaged 360 watts (5.8 watts per kg) [For relevance.. An untrained person is about 2.5w/kg, highest level amateurs are about 6, U.S. Professionals are about 6.7, and World tour pros are about 7.3].... That was at the start of the racing season. I wish I would've tested near the end when I peaked. I may have been close to 400 watts for 5min.

..right now, I can't do any of these

30 pull ups in a minute or two a couple years ago. Benched about 120% my body weight.

3 years ago at 72 kg BW
135 kg deadlifts - 297 lbs
114 kg back squat -250 lbs

I haven't done any barbell training for years, only kettlebells, so I have no idea what my current barbell stats would look like.

KBs are currently
190 16kg snatches in 10 minutes.
55 36kg long cycle reps in 10 minutes.

Pullups and bench have always been weak AF.

I weighted about 230 lbs at the time. (I may be off 5 lbs or so, as it's been a while since I did this.)

Bench:390 lbs and 250 lbs 20 times
Squat: 515 lbs (I quit maxing after this. Just too dangerous for little gain.)
20 yard shuttle: 4.38
40 dash: 4.89 (Not great, but not bad at 230 lbs.)

27 pull ups in high school. Just edged out my gymnast buddy for that year's presidential physical fitness test (remember that?)

In my twenties, went to the Basque country with my dad. Lifted the back half of a Seat to impress my younger cousins. Worse part was the sharp edge of the bumper hurt my hands! They wanted me to repeat the feat for every passerby. I pretended "no comprende"

Strong numbers! I had a theory that this place draws in people who lift, I am not disappointed.

Pinching two 45lb plates is an achievement few will appreciate. I've done 2 25s, could never quite break 35s off the ground.

My long term goal is getting a 100lb dumbbell overhead. The catch is it has a 2.5" diameter handle...

I am assuming all the pull up numbers in here are non kipping.

I know maxing is probably dumb, but man, I can't help but wonder. I'm impressed at the discipline of those who resist the temptation.

Shouldn't these feats be measured in Jacobs instead of pounds? As in, whatever Jacob can lift? Or maybe MMMs, since he actually lifts?

I would call myself a lifter but I will go every few weeks. My current bench and deadlift are about 1x bodyweight and back squat is about 1.3x.

Jason, if you're not messing with us, damn. That's getting into freak territory.

Over the past 12 years at 6'2" and roughly 175-180lbs and not much of it at the same time (short attention span)

From strength to endurance...
2x32kg KB clean and press (1 rep).
Closed a 200lbs gripper (right hand).
225 points in ICS.
300W average over 20mins (functional threshold) on a Kurt Kinetic.
400m run in 64 seconds on 1/8 mile circular track (2 rounds).
~800 (or something like that) jump rope w/o tripping.

Also see the burpee competition.

Jason, I'm guessing you are short, all the great pushers are.

I maxed at 78 push-ups in 2 minutes, 2 miles in 13:59. 25 years ago...

But my greatest feat of strength was getting a 1000' reel of 100 PR 24 GA plenum cat 5 cable into my van, without a forklift. That required all my strength, all the leverage and balance I could muster. This is around 600 lbs but it was anything but a clean lift.

I've picked up some rounds of firewood that I shouldn't have, to load them into the back of my 4WD pickup. I resolved to split them first the next time. After seeing the chiropractor.

For that matter I've picked up trees that I had cut, but were so tangled up in the branches of other trees that they would not fall. I carried/dragged the base of the tree a ways until I pulled the top of the tree down out of the other branches. Then I bought a Junior Arch, a much better idea.

I've run two 50K Ultramarathons, but they were a couple of years apart.

Biked 80 miles near Blue Mountains, Ontario. (24)

125 sit-ups in 5 minutes (14)

*Hardest thing I have ever done. I don't plan on having children.

240kg (530lbs) deadlift

235kg (518lbs) squat

135kg (297lbs)

All 10 years ago.

More recent feat, completed the

http://hundredpushups.com program.

Unfortunately I hurt my shoulder in the last workout. So I never had the possibility to take the actual test. Did 73 in the last set to failure of that exercise. Now building up again with more fokus on form and stable shoulders.

Fun program that takes little time and the best of all it's free.
