Re: JL's journal
Awesome thanks for posting the COL index. I also look at numbeo.com. Which does a break down on COL but also on purchasing power parity which involves average local incomes and it also does a rental price index - which in many cases is the most important cost for extreme frugal people to care about (the cost of a pair of jeans means little to me).

Re: JL's journal
Nice work on net worth. Exciting!
My NZ version of super only allows withdrawal for hardship. But I just leave it there as a safety net when I really need it as it is a tiny fuck all fraction of my net worth. Or I can use it for first home purchase or if I move overseas for a year or more. No tax though.
I read that the secret of AirBNB is to start cheapest in the market as you attract new people and then gradually increase the price as you get more great comments The more great comments you have the more you can charge until you are top of the market

Caloriewise it depends a lot on how fast you're going when it comes to cycling. Still better than driving. If you're going some 15mph and fuelling yourself with olive oil (yuck!), you should be getting around 600ish MPG.

Re: JL's journal
Congrats your net worth has been growing more quickly each year.
I thought about doing the AirBNB thing but worked out I couldn't make much more off it either at the moment than with a flatmate.
Looks like you have some exciting times ahead!
