Recommendations on free encryption software?

Post by SimpleLife »

I used to use TrueCrypt back when it was all the rage. I don't have bitlocker on my Windows box due to the edition I have but was looking into some open source stuff. I didn't really like TrueCrypt, their UI made it too easy for someone not paying attention to accidentally wipe their drive. Between that and slow mounting issues I read about, I decided to see what else is out there before moving forward. Surely I can't be the only one that wants to encrypt their drives in case of theft?

isn't this built into most operating systems now? both Ubuntu and Mac have full disc encryption built in.

Run Ubuntu with full disk encryption turned on. It's really easy now, it's just a box to check during installation.
