I have a cast iron(?) floor drain that received some standing water and is now a redbrown rusty eye-sore. I believe such plumbing is called "black pipe" but I might be wrong. It definitely was black, but now it's not.
My question is how to restore it?
Naval jelly? Sandpaper? Smearing it in oil and putting a blow torch to it just like curing a pan? Painting it?
Derusting rusty cast iron plumbing
Re: Derusting rusty cast iron plumbing
I would consider painting it with one of those spray cans you can buy at the auto parts stores for painting a cast-iron engine block? You could try it first without removing the rust and see if it seals well enough? You'd still have plenty left over if a more involved solution is required.

is it just surface rust (have you tried vinegar yet)?
drill with metal brush attachment, then apply rust converter and let it sit?
