manual pencil sharpener

Post by jennypenny »

Our industrial-sized electric pencil sharpener died and I want to replace it with a manual one. We go through a lot of pencils, so I think I need something stronger than a hand-held one. Does anyone have one or have an opinion? I'm wondering if I should get one from a school supply store. Do you think they're built better than something I'd get on Amazon?

I really don't have a recommend, but would be tempted to go with something like this:

Ah, I didn't think to search for "vintage" when I looked. I only came up with something like this...

My parents had a Boston Champion on the wall at our house for 45 years. Bombproof. They sell on ebay for about $10.

Victory through superior firepower, eh? This is perhaps one of those cases, where the optimal choice is a one dime solution.

Personally, I use a block plane, but I don't recall ever wearing down a pencil.

How is that possible? I burn through 1-2 pencils/week.

I don't think I've used a pencil in 5-10 years, lol!

I went vintage and got a Boston Ranger 55 Draftsman pencil sharpener. I love it!

I'm kind of late to the thread, but this is my favorite portable pencil sharpener:

What about trading the wooden pencils and their sharpener for a stainless steel mechanical pencil and one-hundred .5 mm or .7 mm graphite rods?

Using a mechanical pencil, you won't need a sharpener!

I needed a portable sharpener, so I bought this one for $1.99 on Amazon. It's quick and sturdy. I wish it caught the shavings, but the small size makes up for it (it's so small I keep it attached to my pencil with a rubber band).
