What's in your fridge/freezer?
This should be interesting.
Me:
Fridge:
- 20 or so bottles of beer
- 1 container Sangria (homemade)
- 1 Organic OJ (used to be 2)
- 1 GRape Juice (store)
- 1 Cranberry Juice (store - mixer)
- 1 Container Jamaica (homemade)
- 1 Container Sweet n Sour mix (mixer)
- 1 container horchata (homemade, but I think SO cheated and used a package she bought)
- Half a block of sharp chedder cheese
- 1/6th a bag of shredded cheese
- about 3 dozen eggs
- about 10 hardboiled eggs
- 3 sprites (mixers)
- 6 redbulls (mixers)
- 2 containers of water
- 1 unopened package of deli sliced meat, 1 half done
- assorted pepppers (hot and not hot)
- 1 cup of flan pudding (bakery)
- garlic
- lime juice (mixer)
- cream cheese
- butter
- choco syrup
- jelly
- assorted condiments from fast food
- 2 peaches
- 1 bottle of Reisling for this Sunday's Mimosa's...
- Nearly empty Rompompe
- onion
- assorted left over bits (salsa, sauce, dog food)
Freezer:
- Huge bag of chicken wings
- Package of hot links (12)
- package of chorizo, not used yet
- 1 half gallon ice cream
- lots of ice
- 2 bell peppers
- 2 bottles of jager
- couple water bottles
- vegetable cuttings for stock
- 3/4 block of parmesian
- 3/4 bag of broccoli
- 3/4 bag of asparagus
- 2 packs of applewood smoked bacon
- 1 steak
- rolls for the hot links
- chicken parts for soup
Most of this I remembered off the top of my head. At one point, the fridge and freezer were nearly bare as we chomped thru the supplies to avoid throwing anything away.
We tend to eat mostly chicken, but this week we ate pork chops and steak. Next week probably pork chops again since pork lends itself to obliterating the lingering frozen veggies for some reason.

At the moment, I'm only buying fridge/freezer items right before use. Here are the non-perishables I have:
3 cans of Jyoti Indian food (good out of the can when there's no where to cook)
1 small bag of brown rice
1 small bag of white rice (1/2 used)
small container of quinoa
small container of couscous
box of rice noodles
large box of grits
7 bottles of sauce (I really want to use this up)
5 small containers of various loose leaf teas
12 small containers of spices (probably ought to thin this too)
Way too much grain for the paleo folks! I'm a vegetarian with some occasional seafood.

I want to wake this thread because I find it interesting to hear how you all deal with minimalism, de-cluttering homes in relationship to hoarding and storing food.
I live less than ten minutes walk from five food shops, and therefore have chosen not to hoard food (unless it is extremely cheap (rare) or from trips to the Chinese supermarket (completely irresistible food shopping).
This is of course without comment be different if you live less central.
I have currently:
Freezer /compartment/:
the last four frozen lunch boxes (each 2 dl veg.meat.lentil stew, to bring to work and eat with instant couscous)
Ice-cream, half package, left over from last party
One salmon steak.
Frozen parsley from shop
Fridge: 2 kg chicken drumsticks being marinaded for next batch of lunch boxes
Organic eggs
Milk
Five different kinds of mustards (I love it)
A litre bottle of soy sauce - the best stuff, half empty
Cupboard:
Lemons (left over from party, unsure what to do with them)
Onions red and yellow, garlic (sacks of it)
Oatmeal, bran, raisins, brown sugar (breakfast)
Round rice (for sushi, risotto, sweat porridge and such)
Split green peas - almost better than lentils to be added by the handful to almost everything
Concentrated tomato purée (was so cheap)
Vinegar, applecider vinegar
Oil, cheapy for cooking
Salt, pepper, herbs, chilli powder,
ERE parties? Of course!!!
I regularly have dinner parties with my one pot stews (pot-luck, cupboard clearers, mixtures). Put a simple bottle of wine and a candle on the table. The guests bring another bottle of wine (each) or dessert whichever they prefer. No sweat, no fuss, no gift, almost no extra work and the leftovers go to lunch boxes.

I've been working on my minimalism, and I think I could do fine without the fridge now, just a small freezer.
I'd have the same things as above in my freezer (chicken/frozen berries), but
1) the hot sauce can go in the cupboard, even opened
2) the single chicken breast can defrost on the counter
3) the beans could be cooked/eaten on the spot, or probably left on the counter for one day... or frozen
I'd love to get a small freezer like this and a side folding murphy bed, like the top one on this link
If I had those things in a 150 sq ft apartment in a city, with a desk facing *HUGE* windows with a nice view, I would be very happy indeed. No waste!
Unfortunately, as I rent, it doesn't make sense right now to fully customize the place I live. The other problem, of course, is convincing someone else, namely my girlfriend, to live with me and my strange preferences...

Fridge: current cache of fresh vegetables (a lot), raw milk (from Jersey cow = fatty deliciousness), farm eggs, cheese... orphaned condiments.
Freezer: grass fed cow, deer, elk, even some moose, pheasant, goose, duck, random seafood. Variety of soups frozen for ease, variety of frozen vegetables, ice cream , berries, sprouted grain bread.
Me like meat!
Yet, all my heart disease blood numbers where much worse when I ate almost no meat and mostly noodles.

Since I'm starting to cook with staples more, our fridge pretty much has condiments and some fresh veggies.
Our freezer has a lot of meat that we have bought on sale over the past few weeks as well as some frozen fruit and veggies.
I actually like having a mostly-empty fridge since there is less of a chance that some expensive ingredient will be forgotten to expire in the back.
