Offer: Apple Powerbook G4 12" 1.33GHz (powerpc) 512Mb 55GB OSX10.5

Post by jacob »

Looking to get rid of my well used laptop and I need an excuse to finally transfer my old data off of it.

If interested, send me $25 and it should cover all shipping (US only). Note, there's no life left in the battery but you can buy an OEM battery on ebay for $15.

PS: Apple no longer supports the powerpc which means you're stuck at 10.5.

"And oh my, I wanted one. It looked stunning, and was just so tremendously powerful. I had just started working at MacUser magazine in London when they finally shipped, much later in 2003, and my colleague and friend Kenny Hemphill succumbed. If I remember correctly, on the first day they were in the shops, he went down, slapped his credit card on the counter, and walked out with possibly the most desirable Mac that Apple had ever made—I was so jealous that he could do that."

Haha ... back then all the cool astrophysicists were switching to macs because OSX is BSD based and that got you linux without all the hassle---meaning it could be used as a work computer and not just a powerpoint presentation device. It was still a tragicomical affair to install linux on a laptop back then, so only the very brave went that way. Also, I gotta admit, the design is [still] stunning even compared to later powerbooks. It just feels solid compared to later models that feel more like plastic. It's like comparing an older HP calculator to a TI 8-)

I'm guessing this offer doesn't extend all the way to Canada...

Well that depends. The reason I say US only is that I know I can put this in a flat rate box for less than $25 w/o the hassle of filling out annoying customs forms.

I'm willing to entertain other solutions though. PM me with a solution if you're really interested.

Probably best to not go through with this. I predict headaches at the border etc... I appreciate your incredible altruism though!
