I would really like to make the next one for this reason. Every year it gets harder and harder to have conversations with people. My plans evoke blank stares as people either don't understand how I do what I do (weirdo) or how I can do what I do (lucky).

Yes, it was nice meeting everyone. :) Hopefully, we can do it again soon. Sorry I had to leave early but the Danish guy had to study. :)

Hmmm... It looks like I'm going to be passing through Chicago on June 22ish and then again on the 26th (going to a festival in the area). I know people wanted to plan a meetup in the Summer, any chance people might want to make Sunday June 26th happen?

Next meetup: Sometime in June. Now taking requests from those from out of state/country. First come first serve.

Plans: There'll be BBQ and the possibility of overnighting in a tent in the backyard or maybe we go to a bona fide camp site for 1-2 days(*)?

Otherwise, same deal as last time(s), i.e. voluntary potluck, freecycling stuff, etc.

Read through the rest of the thread for details and to see how it usually goes.

(*) How many are 1) capable of making it to an IL/IN campsite? 2) own a tent + sleeping bags? 3) interested in doing so for a multi-day event?

I'll be in N. Illinois in the June time frame. I could possibly attend either before I continue up to Minnesota (which would actually be more like late May the way things are looking today) or in between returning from Minnesota and returning to Alabama, towards the middle of the month. If things line up at all I would likely only have time to make a partial day trip over from Rkfd, and wouldn't be in great position to participate in a potluck or swap meet as I'll have been on the road ~ 3 weeks by then. I will also be in a melancholy mood which happens every time I leave the Northwoods.

Me +1 would attend. We aren't fans of camping, though, so we would head on home once the camping portion began. The rest sounds like fun, though.

Yes to backyard barbecue, mayb to sleeping over, tenuous mayb to a campground. I'd have to borrow camping equipment.

We could probably do this, assuming it was Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. We have all necessary camping gear.

Edit: never mind. June won't work.

I would like to attend. I suggest camping at the dunes in Indiana. If others are interested in this, I can check into prices and availability.

Oh man, I'd love to do an ERE camping trip/meetup, just so happens I'm in the USA June/July, sadly in California, Nevada and Hawaii so can't make it. :'(

Why does your country have to be so huge ;)

It was a plot by the founding fathers to keep us addicted to our cars.

I might attend. Possibly I will make the meet-up end point of bicycle camping trip, so it will probably take me 4 days to get there. Depends on whether I feel like I can leave my garden.

Sounds good to me. I also like Ken's idea of camping at the Indiana Dunes. I've never been to the dunes; what better way to experience it than camping?

If anyone is interested in the Dunes State Park for overnight camping, check www.camp.IN.gov or call 1-866-622-6746 for campsite availability. I was told there could be a maximum of 6 people per site and two tents. Rates are $30 Thurs.-Sat. Weekends for June are probably filling up. For those not wanting to camp overnight, you can park at Porter beach to the west of the state park for free, and then walk in (maybe a one mile walk on the beach and to the camp ground). I believe day passes for out-of-state is kind of steep. I hope this helps.

Newest Chicago Meetup* @2pm June 25th 2016, same place as last time

Post by jacob »

Too much going on at ERE HQ these days for any camp ground excursions, sorry, so I'm picking the simple option:

2pm at Sat 6/25-2016, my place, Potluck BBQ'ing(*) (we supply the propane) in the back yard, inside if it's raining, or basement in case of WWIII---depending on how many shows up I figure we got enough supplies for about 2-3 weeks before things turn interesting.

(*) If you're full-on vegan and don't want your veggies tainted by meat, we can accommodate that too.

PM me for location if you don't know the address already.

I'll update with more details as we get closer.

Sleepovers are possible for long distance folks. We have a spare bedroom with a futon as well as a fold-out sleeper sofa in the living room . Also, lawn (tent), garage (eh?!), street (van, RV, ..) , ... for alternative accommodations.

PS: If you were at the last meetup and want to hook up on fb, feel free to contact me on fb.
