wow, I can't believe it has been so long ago...I thought I meet you guys in 2012! Time flies. Oh well, that's neither here nor there.

The idea to have a monthly meetup was just a thought...since I have been out of the loop for a while, I'm not familiar with the ethos of the meetups so I will defer to the group. If you all say monthly is too frequent, that's cool. My motivation was to offer more opportunities for more people. In my experience, it's extremely difficult to get ANY group of New Yorkers together, but that's sometimes mitigated by having recurring meetings, so people can come as they please (just trying to be inclusive and mindful of people's schedules)

I will offer my living room for a future meetup.

550 Madison on the 18th works for me. I'll bring Coup, which can play quite a few players. Maybe a deck of cards.

Let's take it a meetup at a time. We can see how this one turns out.

And damn, 2011... I've been on this site too long.

Any particular time? I have a flight at 4pm, so would have to leave in advance of that.

I was thinking at 1-2 or something like that. I'm busy in the morning and evening. It's fine with me if I arrive a bit later than everyone else.

I'm glad I was able to make it, I had fun. I can host the next meetup at my house and maybe we could have a meal or something. I was also thinking we could arrange these meetups around learning how to learn a new skill or something. Does anyone do anything particularly well that they would like to teach or know where we could have a group learn how to do something? I am personally interested in hunting and I have NO idea how to get started. Also, I have a ton of books and I'm starting to purge to get rid of some stuff, if any of you are interested in meeting up for a book/misc. stuff swap.

See y'all later!

I was very impressed that everyone who said they were coming was able to make it! Unusual for a meetup.

I had a good time as well. I'd say, if we do these more frequently, that some kind of 'theme' would make sense. Not to keep everything 100% focused on the theme, but it provides a structure for conversation.

I'd personally be interested in home-grown food without yards, brewing/probiotics (I've brewed kombucha and can talk about that, it's simple), clothing repair/reuse, cheap travel, or publishing books - to name a few topics that have come up on the forums.

Good idea, m741! I learned how to make kombucha last year and it has saved me lots of money. Although, I think my scoby is now dead so I'll have to start over.

Let's meet up one more time before the year ends, if everyone is up for it...maybe in December? Maybe we could do a swap/giftmaking event for the holidays. While I celebrate Christmas, I don't buy gifts so my friends and family know to expect something handmade :) If anyone has anything to teach/contribute, that would be a cool event.
