MASSIVE THANK YOU - FI in Fiji

Post by Sere »

I wasn't sure where to put this, but just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone on the forums, and to Jacob whose book & blog was instrumental in DH and I securing our own financial independence. I dropped off posting on here for a while, mainly because I was paranoid someone from my work would find out, but turns out everyone was quite surprised when we resigned, so I guess the secret was safe!
Today we started volunteering at a school in Fiji, which is something I have wanted to do since we were here earlier this year (just for a vacation) when Cyclone Winston hit. I'm so glad that we now have the freedom to be able to do so (normally, it would be absolutely impossible for me to get this time off work).
To everyone still striving for FI, keep going - you will get there! And to everyone who has reached that goal - I raise a glass to you!

Great news and congrats. This will only get better (my experience) and it may take a while to adjust. But freedom to make big changes and time to adjust are things you now have plenty of.

Sorry for the late response. The school we're working at has no power, so my internet opportunities are somewhat limited!
Thanks @saving-10-years. It hasn't taken me too long to adjust to not going in to work, but I am finding it hard to adjust to a) not having a job title (how do I introduce myself?! I can think of names like 'adventurer' or 'blogger' etc. but they all seem so lame, and 'early retiree' doesn't really describe doing anything...) and b) not having a fixed address (we've rented out apartment out for some extra funds while we're on the road, and have our (much reduced) posessions in storage.
Thanks also @Dragline & @Duderino :D
