Favorite items in stock closet (looking for ideas to add more)

Post by stand@desk »

All EREing aside, it's nice to have a few "luxuries" in your stock closet. I thought I'd list my current coveted items and I'd love to hear what others "hoard" in case of the Zombie Apocalypse. I'm looking for more ideas of stock to add.

The List:
-7 cans of Guinness
-12 cans of Low Sodium Club Soda
-1kg bag of Brown Basamati Rice
-5 tins of Brunswick Sardines
-6 tins of Smoked Oysters
-4 Cliff Bars
-1 600g package of Walnuts
-1 bottle of San Pellegrino
-8 540ml cans of Kidney/White Kidney/ Black Beans
-1 Bottle of Vintage Port
-3 packages of Hearty Wasa Brand Crackers
-1 small container of tic tacs

Hmm, things I always have in the cupboard that might not pass the ERE smell test ...

Lots of different teas
Several cases of Shiraz and Malbec (he gives me a discount if I order by the case)
Cream
Strawberries
Nutella
Champagne (I don't drink it often but I love it, so I always have a bottle on hand in case an excuse to drink it pops up)

Top shelf spirits of my favorite cocktail bar. I figure they will be worth a lot when SHTF, failing that we can have one hell of a party ;)

+1 Though a good prosecco or cava is a reasonable substitute and cheaper :)

@chenda, buying cheap champagne and letting it age is a good way to save without giving it up entirely. SO and I bulk buy reasonable champagne on sales ~£7 bottle, stack it up in our spare room and give it as gifts at weddings, birthdays or consume at home on special occasions. Everyone always assumes we paid full price >£25 a bottle so we save a small fortune.

I'm not opposed to certain bottles of prosecco though and enjoy them too.

@vexed87 that's a good idea.

Apparently in the village of Prosecco, where it all began, they serve it up on draft... :)

Forgot one ... KIND Dark Chocolate, Nuts and Sea Salt Bars. Yum.

I accept Amazon GCs as payment for editing partially to fund my addiction to them.

7 cans of Guinness would only last about seven hours.

I mean a week.

Yeah, a week.

About 30 bottles of nice wines (average price USD 18 I guess?)
Other than that fridge and stocks are virtually empty except: 2 bottles of nice Greek/Croatian oils, some vegetables, 2 cans of Kirin and 1 can of Suntory Premium Malts.

I have several choices of hot meals from USD 2.1-3.5/meal around my house and it ends up cheaper and easier than cooking myself.
If the Zombie Apocalypse comes I will have to live on wine and olive oil I guess.

How could I forget!

Peanut butter, UHT milk, 15kg strong flour, yeast, jarred veg you couldn't live without, olives, peppers, tomatoes, nuts (pistachio, almond, cashew etc.)

I'm with Dragline...7 cans is not enough. I actually have a beer closet. It's about 5'x3'x1' and I have roughly 20 different types of microbrews in there at any time. North Coast's Old Rasputin is one of the standards. I use the excuse of having to buy four 6-packs at a time to get the 10% discount at the local microbrew store.

Also, garlic powder. It makes almost any cooking better.

The problem with having luxuries in stock for me is they get used up faster than when I buy in smaller quantities but more frequently.
