Dividend Information

Post by thrifty++ »

Where can I find good data on past dividends for any particular stock?

I used to use Google Finance but now for some reason the dividends do not seem apparent like they used to be.

The most reliable data is in their 10k. When I look at earnings I always confirm it to the 10k and it's frequently off.

I did a program where I tracked VTSAX vs Fidelity total market, reinvesting dividends for 100's of periods over the last 30 years to see which performed better on average. I used Yahoo's dividend information for this.

Was there a clear winner?

They were not too different. Fidelity won more often but I am personally invested with Vanguard due to the overlap of interests. I can post/pm you the code (C++) and dividend files(excel) if you have a compiler, it's not more than a couple thousand lines of code.

This site may be useful to you: http://www.dripinvesting.org/tools/tools.asp. The US dividends champion section could be helpful - especially the "Historic compilation of Dividend Champion spreadsheets" section.

I assume you want past dividend history in order to compile a list of companies you want to invest in - this site may help you winnow your selections. It goes without saying but I'm sure you will do the homework needed to verify the information is accurate. Good luck on your research.
