"Favorite joke" interview question?

Post by TopHatFox »

Thought the very question is ridiculous, but funny in its own ridiculous way. What to answer what to answer...:P

Oo, I got one: A dog was asked to consult a group of foreign clients. His first word: meow.

Knowing the audience, I kinda like some of these:

How do you know you have a great CPA? He has a tax loophole named after him.

What's the difference between an accountant and a lawyer? The accountant knows he's boring.

Why did the man think he saw a ghost on Halloween? A kid dressed up as his 401k.

Maybe some kind of joke about interviewees/interviewers? About interviewers asking odd questions?

If I was interviewing for a job I'd think that was a pretty stupid question to ask and I might be put off a bit.

I've never been asked to recite a joke in a job interview. But maybe I've just never applied to the prestigious firms that you are gunning for.

Ooooh, what about:

Interviewer
"Candidate, recite a joke!"

Zalo
Looks around frantically for a comic moment, then a look of utter relief floods his face
"Oh, thank god... my Second City interview IS next week."

And then settle in comfortably, as if you are waiting for a real question to meander your way.

I'd honestly just make up a joke on the spot, and admit it.

"A man walked into a bar, he was asked to make a joke, instead the bar had hit his head and knocked him out"

Let me suggest:
So yesterday, I was talking to this guy at 11am. He stopped, looked my in the eye and said, "Are you DRUNK?"
I said, "I am very drunk.".... then exclaim to the interviewer, "shortest job interview EVER!!!" while raising both hands above your head in victory!

You will know when you get the offer after telling that joke, you landed in a funny place.

Otherwise, I would go simple:
What do you call a broken boomerang? a stick
What is brown and sticky? a stick
What did the number zero say to the 8? Nice belt
Why did the bike fall over at the end of a long ride? It was two tired.

With a completely serious face say, "If I don't get this job, I will burn down this building with everyone inside."
Wait a beat, then, "Haha! Just kidding! Hahha. I'm not serious."
After that, just stare at them coldly until they ask the next question.

Does anyone see any benefit from a question like this? Even if you're looking for someone who has a sense of humor, this is a rather poor question. I hate stupid interview questions.

What are your weaknesses?

During the interview for my current job, I was asked what I was interested in and did in middle school. That one really threw me off. They were trying to get an understanding of who I am which is fine, but questions about my life 10 years ago during my early/pre teen years are pretty irrelevant.
