For those of the country persuasion, Sugarland - Something More

Monday, hard to wake up
Fill my coffee cup, I'm out the door
Yeah, the freeway's standing still today
It's gonna make me late, and thats for sure
I'm running out of gas and out of time
Never gonna make it there by nine

[Chorus:]
There's gotta be something more
Gotta be more than this
I need a little less hard time
I need a little more bliss
I'm gonna take my chances
Taking a chance I might
Find what I'm looking for
There's gotta be something more

Five years and there's no doubt
That I'm burnt out, I've had enough
So now boss man, here's my two weeks
I'll make it short and sweet, so listen up
I could work my life away, but why?
I got things to do before I die

[Repeat Chorus]

Some believe in destiny, and some believe in fate
I believe that happiness is something we create
You best believe that I'm not gonna wait
'Cause there's gotta be something more

I get home 7:30 the house is dirty, but it can wait
Yeah, 'cause right now I need some downtime
To drink some red wine and celebrate
Armageddon could be knocking at my door
But I ain't gonna answer that's for sure.
There's gotta be something!

Every song on City and Colour's 'Hurry and the Harm' album is EREeque, there's even a song about getting the hell out of California... :)

Acre of Land - Ray Lamontage

Here's the song, and the entire album it's on (it's the first song)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWWXV4VCn6c

I'm gonna buy me an acre of land
Yes I'm going to build me a home
With my very own hands
Gonna dig me a little garden
And watch that garden grow
And take it slow
Take it slow
Let it roll

I'm gonna find me a high place to stand
Then I'm gonna find me the girl
I wanna take in my hand
Gonna have myself some children
And watch those children grow
And take it slow
Let them grow
Take it slow

I'm gonna find me an arce of land
Then I'm going to build me a home
With my very own hands
Gonna plant me a little garden
And watch that garden grow
And take it slow
Take it slow
Let it roll

I always think of ERE when I hear this on the radio. I know it's popular, but I like it anyway. :P

Renegades

Run away with me
Lost souls and reverie
Running wild and running free
Two kids, you and me

And I say
Hey, hey hey hey
Living like we're renegades
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Living like we're renegades
Renegades, renegades

Long live the pioneers
Rebels and mutineers
Go forth and have no fear
Come close the end is near

And I say hey, hey hey hey
Living like we're renegades
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Living like we're renegades
Renegades, renegades

All hail the underdogs
All hail the new kids
All hail the outlaws
Spielberg's and Kubrick's

It's our time to make a move
It's our time to make amends
It's our time to break the rules
Let's begin

And I say hey, hey hey hey
Living like we're renegades
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Leaving like we're renegades
Renegades, renegades

That really has that Millennial "choral collective" sound to it, like Walk Off The Earth.

August Burns Red - Endorphins

Just take it in stride.
One breath and I think I feel free.
All we can do is strive for the best thoughts,
the best feelings, the "warm fuzzy" feeling.
As a child, I believed these all came to me due to the process of living.

Grab the wheel right now, and make this life yours!

Walk with me.
Leave your disgusting fever.
Take this life - make it yours.
Forgotten are the days of wandering pointlessly in my dreams.
Carry me with your wings.

Eminem - 8 Mile Road

Post by fiby41 » Wed Nov 25, 2015 4:40 am

Sometimes I just feel like, quittin' I still might
Why do I put up this fight, why do I still write
Sometimes it's hard enough just dealin' with real life
Sometimes I wanna jump on stage and just kill mics
And show these people what my level of skill's like
But I'm still hyped, sometimes I just hate life
Somethin ain't right, hit the brake lights
Case of the stage fright, drawin a blank like
Da-duh-duh-da-da, it ain't my fault
Great big eyeballs, my insides crawl
And I clam up {*wham*} I just slam shut
I just can't do it, my whole manhood's
Just been stripped, I have just been vicked
So I must then get, off the bus then split
Man fuck this shit; yo, I'm goin' the fuck home
World on my shoulders as I run back to this 8 Mile Road

I'm a man, I'mma make a new plan
Time for me to just stand up, and travel new land
Time to really just take matters into my own hands
Once I'm over these tracks man I'mma never look back
(8 Mile Road) And I'm gone, I know right where I'm goin
Sorry momma I'm grown, I must travel alone
Ain't gon' follow the footsteps I'm makin' my own
Only way that I know how to escape from this 8 Mile Road

I'm walkin' these train tracks, tryin' to regain back
The spirit I had 'fore I go back to the same crap
To the same plant, in the same pants
Tryin' to chase rap, gotta move ASAP
And get a new plan, momma's got a new man
Poor little baby sister, she don't understand
Sits in front of the TV, buries her nose in the pad
And just colors until the crayon gets dull in her hand
While she colors her big brother and mother and dad
Ain't no tellin' what really goes on in her little head
Wish I could be the daddy that neither one of us had
But I keep runnin' from somethin' I never wanted so bad!
Sometimes I get upset, cause I ain't blew up yet
It's like I grew up, but I ain't grow me two nuts yet
Don't gotta rep my step, don't got enough pep
The pressure's too much man , I'm just tryin' to do what's best
And I try, sit alone and I cry
Yo I won't tell no lie, not a moment goes by
That I don't pray to the sky, please I'm beggin' you God
Please don't let me be pigeonholed in no regular job
Yo I hope you can hear me homey wherever you are
Yo I'm tellin' you dawg I'm bailin' this trailer tomorrow
Tell my mother I love her, kiss baby sister goodbye
Say whenever you need me baby, I'm never too far
But yo I gotta get out there, the only way I know
And I'mma be back for you, the second that I blow
On everything I own, I'll make it on my own
Off to work I go, back to this 8 Mile Road

I'm a man, I'mma make a new plan
Time for me to just stand up, and travel new land
Time to really just take matters into my own hands
Once I'm over these tracks man I'mma never look back
(8 Mile Road) And I'm gone, I know right where I'm goin
Sorry momma I'm grown, I must travel alone
Ain't gon' follow the footsteps I'm makin' my own
Only way that I know how to escape from this 8 Mile Road

You gotta live it to feel it, you didn't you wouldn't get it
Or see what the big deal is, why it was and it still is
To be walkin this borderline of Detroit city limits
It's different, it's a certain significance, a certificate
Of authenticity, you'd never even see
But it's everything to me, it's my credibility
You never seen heard smelled or met a real MC
Who's incredible upon the same pedestal as me
But yet I'm still unsigned, havin' a rough time
Sit on the porch with all my friends and kick dumb rhymes
Go to work and serve MCs in the lunchline
But when it comes crunch time, where do my punchlines go?
Who must I show, to bust my flow?
Where must I go? Who must I know?
Or am I just another crab in the bucket?
Cause I ain't havin' no luck with this little Rabbit so fuck it
Maybe I need a new outlet, I'm startin to doubt shit
I'm feelin' a little skeptical who I hang out with
I look like a bum, yo my clothes ain't about shit
At the Salvation Army tryin to salvage an outfit
And it's cold, tryin' to travel this road
Plus I feel like I'm on stuck in this battlin mode
My defenses are so up, but one thing I don't want
Is pity from no one, the city is no fun
There is no sun, and it's so dark
Sometimes I feel like I'm just bein' pulled apart
From each one of my limbs, by each one of my friends
It's enough to just make me wanna jump out of my skin
Sometimes I feel like a robot, sometimes I just know not
What I'm doin I just blow, my head is a stove top
I just explode, the kettle gets so hot
Sometimes my mouth just overloads the ass that I don't got
But I've learned, it's time for me to U-turn
Yo it only takes one time for me to get burned
Ain't no fallin' no next time I meet a new girl
I can no longer play stupid or be immature
I got every ingredient, all I need is the courage
Like I already got the beat, all I need is the words
Got the urge, suddenly it's a surge
Suddenly a new burst of energy has occurred
Time to show these free world leaders the 3 and a third
I am no longer scared now, I'm free as a bird
Then I turn and cross over the median curb
Hit the 'burbs and all you see is a blur from 8 Mile Road

I'm a man, I'mma make a new plan
Time for me to just stand up, and travel new land
Time to really just take matters into my own hands
Once I'm over these tracks man I'mma never look back
(8 Mile Road) And I'm gone, I know right where I'm goin
Sorry momma I'm grown, I must travel alone
Ain't gon' follow the footsteps I'm makin' my own
Only way that I know how to escape from this 8 Mile Road

I currently reside 4 miles from 8 Mile Road. Perhaps I should attempt to write a response song about escaping from the affluent suburbs. Something like:

Sorry daddy I'm grown, I must travel alone
Ain't gon' vacuum no McMansion no more
Thumb my nose
Toodle-ooo
Left the Subaru
Tight parking spot
Whole Foods lot
Hip-hopped on the bus
No need to discuss much
Only way I know how to escape from this 12 Mile Road

Frugal Lyrics

Post by fiby41 » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:27 am

... mistook me for some high roller
But I won't buy them a soda
Unless it's Rock and Rye cola (Faygo's cheaper)
Buy you a bag of Fritos?
I wouldn't let you eat the fucking chip on my shoulder
If you was bleach and I was hair I wouldn't die for ya
Tryna pull 5 bucks from me is like tryna pull 5 molars
You'll get your eyes swollen up
I'm on my straight-grizzly
So why would I buy you a gay-ass teddy-bear?
You're already bi-polar

...

Shirt off my back, I wouldn’t give you the dirt off my handkerchief

SimpleLife's predicament according to his posts in particular and people suffering from One More Year Syndrome in general:

But now it's lay me down to sleeping
Is it really my soul to keep, or have I sold it cheap?
Is it greed or do I take more than I need?
When I joke of leavin', but keep overachievin'
Cause what it's stole from me I've barely broken even

Last one. In this song freedom is personified. Not in English so hopefully the composition conveys the message: https://youtu.be/ubS4UTS6EW4

..And to think it was written by an athiest.

Rush - Tom Sawyer
Tom Sawyer was a collaboration between myself and Pye Dubois, an excellent lyricist who wrote the lyrics for Max Webster. His original lyrics were kind of a portrait of a modern day rebel, a free-spirited individualist striding through the world wide-eyed and purposeful. I added the themes of reconciling the boy and man in myself, and the difference between what people are and what others perceive them to be - namely me I guess.

August Burns Red - Barbarian

Chaos brings order, yeah, brings order

Who will you allow to lead you blindly
Until the end, until the end?
You're like a little girl with a stupid crush
With a stupid crush, crush

We all sing glory, we all sing
We all choke ourselves with our own ignorance, ya

There is so much more to life
Than your stupid desires
No, nothing is everything
And everything is something

Confused? Troubled? Troubled?

Finding the meaning is looking through
The vivid transparencies, the vivid transparencies
Dance the night away because tomorrow
We will look back and talk about good times now gone forever
Trace lines around the image of your choice

Dance until the end my friend
Dance until the end my friend
And find joy in every living thing
In every living thing, every living thing, wow

Optimism is not a choice, it's a belief

We orbit the sun
I grow up

Into the sleep machine I won't plug in,

To you, my friend,

'cause in my mind it's set the vitamin is ripe to give
Coming closer to another 2000 years

Slightly off topic but....

I have a good size digital music collection and I periodically buy songs when I can use them for a class. I have not installed Apple Music and just uninstalled iTunes so I do not have any personal experience with this but it made me think about doing another backup of my music collection.

Apple Stole My Music

I was wondering if anyone here has tried Apple Music and experienced this first hand. I was also wondering if this is the future....

Huh, so THAT'S what happened. I lost some music 7 years ago when I got an iPhone and iTunes. Not all of it, maybe their software wasn't as good 7 years ago? I was convinced that iTunes did it, but my friends thought I was crazy. Just like that authors. Anyways, I haven't installed iTunes on any computer I've had since then. I still used iPhones, but I just have music on there from nearly a decade ago.

Switching to Android from here on out.
